Stephanie Pettigrew @stephpettigrew.bsky.social · 05/08/2026Since getting the cast off my wrist I've had to wear a brace. While the brace is a million times better (love being able to take it off to take a bath), every so often the skin on my hand/arm decides to go into sensory overload and flip out like a kid in the water who just just a fish. 030
Stephanie Pettigrew @stephpettigrew.bsky.social · 25/07/2026Looks like we have the same plate, but mine is placed slightly higher as the fracture is mid humerus. 110
Stephanie Pettigrew @stephpettigrew.bsky.social · 25/07/2026My physio is actually brilliant, and unfortunately the nature of the injury does mean that rehab is gonna be awful. 000
Stephanie Pettigrew @stephpettigrew.bsky.social · 25/07/2026So I'm trying an experiment. I'm basically attempting to pavlov myself into doing the required amount of physio using salted caramel. Every time I successfully complete a round of physio, I am rewarded with a caramel. Look forward to my peer reviewed study. 150
Stephanie Pettigrew @stephpettigrew.bsky.social · 25/07/2026Cast just came off this week, and so far rehab has sucked. I'm supposed to be doing physio exercises 4x per day, but can only manage 3x. By the time I get to round 4, I'm just in too much pain. 200

Stephanie Pettigrew @stephpettigrew.bsky.social · 18/03/2026When I was living in NS, they also had a provincial vet program to assure coverage in rural areas. The vet for Louisbourg was located in Baddeck, for example. QC subsidizes their agricultural vets rather than running the program provincially. ON has the VAP. 000
Stephanie Pettigrew @stephpettigrew.bsky.social · 18/03/2026Oh we're leaving it to the free market? That's worked out great for everyone so far... 000
Stephanie Pettigrew @stephpettigrew.bsky.social · 18/03/2026There is if the vets leave the area because they were blindsided by this decision rather than given enough notice to open their own practices. Can't hire them if they're not here. 100
Stephanie Pettigrew @stephpettigrew.bsky.social · 18/03/2026I don't think people understand that the only large animal vets in this province are the ones employed by the province. There are no private vets offering this service, and expecting the provincial vets to go into private practice with zero notice is absurd. 140
Stephanie Pettigrew @stephpettigrew.bsky.social · 18/03/2026There is no such thing as a travelling large animal vet. The large animal vets that are currently here are only here because they are employed by the gov. This program is being cut without any prior notice, which means we are going from 20 vets to 0. 210
Stephanie Pettigrew @stephpettigrew.bsky.social · 18/03/2026The infrastructure would need to be in place before undercutting the service. Right now, I think the assumption is that the provincial vets will move to private practice, but most private vet practices in NB can't absorb large animal practitioners. 011
Stephanie Pettigrew @stephpettigrew.bsky.social · 18/03/2026Any and all pathology will now need to be sent to the Atlantic Veterinary college in PEI, which introduces time delays in tracking disease outbreaks. Combined with the cuts in agrifood at the federal level and this is a huge blow. Huge. 143
Stephanie Pettigrew @stephpettigrew.bsky.social · 18/03/2026This is going to have a huge impact on dairy farmers. This introduces a whole new level of risk to our local food supply, at a time when inflation on groceries is already out of control. Honestly I don't know how anyone thinks this is a good idea. 142
Stephanie Pettigrew @stephpettigrew.bsky.social · 18/03/2026An NB budget item I have only seen being discussed by the farmers and the horse people: the elimination of the provincial vet program and lab. The province is going to lose 20+ large animal vets, plus our pathology lab, when the availability of vet services for livestock is already at crisis level 174

Stephanie Pettigrew @stephpettigrew.bsky.social · 14/03/2026Sometimes I wonder why our local Costco is so busy like all of the time. it's just always packed. It's because it's the only place where food is even close to reasonably priced. If you have the money to buy in bulk and pay for a membership you're prob at Costco. 130

Stephanie Pettigrew @stephpettigrew.bsky.social · 09/03/2026Didn't that food professor guy spend a lot of time and energy telling us all that grocery prices were high because of the carbon tax? You know, the one that doesn't exist anymore, and seems to have had zero impact on grocery prices? 241
Stephanie Pettigrew @stephpettigrew.bsky.social · 09/03/2026It's not like these same retailers are lowering prices when the price of oil - and therefore costs - go DOWN. Once the price is up, and they realize people are willing to pay that price, it will stay up. 120
Stephanie Pettigrew @stephpettigrew.bsky.social · 09/03/2026The price of oil has been down for months now. Historic data shows gas prices at their peak in 2022-23, with a moderate spike last summer. When the price of goods start to go up and retailers blame the price of oil, keep in mind retailers have done nothing but raise prices since 2023. 151
