They seem to have made the same error as Tufton Street's The Institute of Economics Affairs. Strange that. Just lifting numbers from a report made by a lobbying firm.

It's not going to happen. They won't be held accountable for their actions and the damage done to America and the rest of the world.

There's a 'companion novel' called Julia written by Sandra Newman which is an interesting read.

Depends on how selfish they are and what sort of a society they want to live in really. While it might be great having that inheritance, living in a country full of poverty, crime, broken infrastructure and hopelessness isn't that great.

'edit with copilot' is more irritating than that paperclip was. The imposition of pointless AI into everything is just wasting time and effort and planetary resources.

Quite, I think the coffin was loaded onto a hearse and driven elsewhere to be planted.

<2> Just pressed 'play' with the 'Best of Tom Jones' CD loaded in the player. Unfortunately 'Danny Boy' was not Track 1. So the funeral congregation, watching the coffin were suddenly serenaded by 'Sexbomb'... After a few seconds of realisation people saw the funny side.

I knew an Irish guy whose father died. His father was a big fan of Tom Jones and liked his version of Danny Boy. At his father's (Catholic) funeral they decided to play 'Danny Boy' as the coffin was carried down the aisle and out of the church. Unfortunately, the person operating the CD <cont.d>

Great to read, but a little saddened that the UK isn't part of the decision making due to our 'decision' in 2016.

Who is his audience for this speech? The US? How does Streeting think this improves things for either Labour or the UK? Can we clone Ed Miliband and use the clone to replace Wes Streeting. Please?

I'm not a fan of Jeremy Corbyn in the UK. But whilst leader of the opposition he had proposed that no company paying less than the living wage should be allowed to pay a dividend to its shareholders. State support for workers is indirectly paying the dividends of companies. Makes a lot of sense

If I remember correctly, Germany also offered code from the proximity sensing part of the COVID track and trace app. We chose to spend money (and time FFS) writing our own. Thousands of people died because of that government. And none of them will ever be held to account.

Personally I like the system (that I believe they use in Germany) where you have two votes; one for a constituency, one for a party. The constituency vote settles a portion of the representatives with the rest being appointed from party lists to achieve the proportions according to the party vote.

A message to the people in #70Up: we have grown up together, and I’ve always watched with fascination, but the current series fills me with such unspeakable joy and grief at the same time. Thank you. A true epic. I salute you x

So Ratcliffe's Ineos is stopping production due to gas prices. The BBC mentions that despite being a supporter of brexit he's been Monaco resident since 2020. They don't mention *why* he moved to Monaco... According to reports at the time it was to avoid paying large amounts of tax. Some patriot.

Sounds familiar... I always thought the brexit referendum was a practice run for the 'tools' to get Trump elected the first time around.

I love the moment you get onto the vehicle deck, see the bike is still upright and the straps haven't damaged the seat! Actually, apart from sitting in the bar on the ferry at the start of a trip the best bit (for me) is probably when you're through immigration on arrival and the trip starts.

Reading the news is just depressing. Misanthropes throwing large sums of money at Reform. Britain First having remigration demonstrations. Knuckle draggers having 'stop the boats' rallies. And all this time... silence from our government.

9/11 I'd been at a meeting and was in a taxi to the airport in Germany when my partner called telling me about the first plane. Second was on the airport news screens. Business as usual at security. Hadn't put two and two together until my plane landed late and the pilot explained why...

<2> EES on entry at Hoek of Holland Ferry turned what used to be a fifteen minute off ferry, out of port experience into about an hour and a quarter of queuing and fraying tempers (three lanes before the cabins go down to two at the cabin with it left to good manners to merge fairly).

StephenPacker @stephenpackeruk.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
Well... So far I've had the full EES experience every time I've entered the EU: picture and fingerprints (Berlin, Hook of Holland Ferry, Lodz). On exit, Lodz took photo as well as fingerprints, Berlin cursed and did 'something' with the computer (same as entrance) and Eurotunnel did nothing. <Cont>
