Everything in this MOU is bad. Likely overlooked is the suspension of the Clean Electricity Regulations in Alberta (which will surely lead to them being removed everywhere) They would have saved 181 Mt of GHGs. Thousands of people fought for years to get these regs. Less than a year later. Gone.

🚩A huge red flag is this mention of Canada amending the Canadian Environmental Protection Act - this will be to allow 'Equivalency Agreements' to last for more than 5 years. This smells strongly of a set-up to weaken the Clean Electricity Regulations and other climate regs. 5/x

Generally, there is little detail in "Climate Competitiveness Strategy" except gutting regulations, and signalling stronger industrial carbon pricing. On #electricity, they re-commit to NZ by 2050 (confirming the walk-back NZ by 2035), and re-commit to the CER. Which is better than cutting it. 4/x
