Fascism is hegemonic masculinity enacted at the level of the state.
“Fascism is male. It loves danger, dislikes chitchat, and scorns courting; because of its natural roughness, it uses its fists when necessary; Fascism is as hard as stone; a far cry from the sweet texture of candied fruit that—like the soul of a woman—hides a hard, teeth-cracking pit inside. That suffices to determine its sex. . . . In short, Fascism arouses virility against any sort of effeminateness or weakness of the spirit. It is also against the Petrarchism of poetry, the mysticism of religion, the democratization and liberalization of politics, against dandyism and leniency at school. Is there anything more masculine than that?”

According to Kant, people in their 20s are just a product of upbringing. In their 30s, they are still dependent on the judgment of others. Only at 40 is one mature enough to "aquire a character." 'Kant: A Revolution in Thinking' by Marcus Willaschek.

My favorite Fourth of July poem. The thing is, we really could make this place beautiful.
Good Bones

A poem By Maggie Smith

Life is short, though I keep this from my children.
Life is short, and I’ve shortened mine
in a thousand delicious, ill-advised ways,
a thousand deliciously ill-advised ways
I’ll keep from my children. The world is at least
fifty percent terrible, and that’s a conservative
estimate, though I keep this from my children.
For every bird there is a stone thrown at a bird.
For every loved child, a child broken, bagged,
sunk in a lake. Life is short and the world
is at least half terrible, and for every kind
stranger, there is one who would break you,
though I keep this from my children. I am trying
to sell them the world. Any decent realtor,
walking you through a real shithole, chirps on
about good bones: This place could be beautiful,
right? You could make this place beautiful.

Fascism comes from misogyny as much (or more!) as it comes from racism. The fascists themselves have been clear about this for a century. So yeah, one expects stupid trans bigotry from fascists, but those on the left who repeat such things are either closet fascists, or unwitting fascist enablers.

I don't have an issue with their findings, which seem reasonable and well-qualified. But zoomed out, the drop in 2007 appears to be the continuation of much longer trend that was very briefly stalled prior to 2007. So it seems clear there is something (many things?) besides cell phones at work.
Graph of U.S. teen birth rates. It begins in 1940 with about 54 births/1000 women age 15-19. It rises to 96 in the late 1950s. After that it declines steadily, with a small rise to 61 in 1990, and another small pause in the decline at 41 around 2008. The latest data is 17.4 births/teen in 2018.

The inflection point in 2007 is clearly visible in the data, but also seems to be the end of a brief pause in an otherwise consistent trend. So as the paper says, phones are part of the story, but not the whole story. And haven't we wanted lower teen birth rates? Maybe we should celebrate phones!

The role of racism in the development of fascism is well known. Less widely known, but as important (I'd argue) is the role of sexism. Hegemonic masculinity, with its inherent misogyny and homophobia, has been central to the rise of every fascist movement. #it'sallgender

It's absolutely been a key element of fascist movements from the start--as important as racism, I'd suggest. The fascists themselves have been quite open about the sexism that underlies their philosophy.

Post from "People's Unity Project"

If you are using undocumented immigrants' tax returns to find and kidnap them, then it was never about them paying taxes.
If you are showing up at their place of employment, then it was never about them not working.
If you are showing up at courthouses, then it was never about getting them to "do it the right way."
If you are kidnapping women and children, then it was never about criminals.
If you're refusing them due process, then it was never about the Constitution.
In you're spending billions to do this, then it was never about the economy.
And if you're doing all this in the name of a 34 time convicted felon, then it was never about following the law.
