There is now way too much emphasis on betting on TSN site/app. Might have to delete it, and just stick with RDS and NHL. Really disappointing stuff Bell Media. #TSN #Bellmedia

83 to go. The Canadiens open their season with a mature effort. It wasn’t spectacular but it was an intelligent road game. The win in Toronto in the season opener of the Call Of The Wilde for Global Montreal globalnews.ca/news/1207663...

Call of the Wilde: Montreal Canadiens start the season with a tight victory over the Maple Leafs in Toronto - Montreal | Globalnews.ca
The Montreal Canadiens drew the Maple Leafs in Toronto and it was a match-up that Montreal has struggled with, but not this time. The Canadiens posted a tight 3-2 win.

I would like to request that from now on, we all refer to them as Sportsmeh. I think it would actually be doing them a favour because if we can get that to stick, it’s arguably better and funnier than Sports Net. Is the net the goal, or is the net the thing they use to trap your money? 🤣

The pairing of Xhekaj and Struble can definitely be a liability. Close call there.

Dobeš repping Birkenstocks seems appropriate somehow. 😂

Leafs with no answer right now for Montreal’s 4th line. I think that will be a recurring theme this season.

For the umpteenth time, let me ask for your opinion. Do you trust what Gorton and Hughes are doing or not? If not, evidence please. If yes, then accept that there was no good Marchenko deal to be made and that they know what the plan is, even if you and I do not. Just enjoy the ride.

Here’s what Montreal’s 23-man roster looks like. Only one player would need to be cut. From there, it will come down to determining who stays in the lineup, who gets sent down and, perhaps, who gets traded within the first 10 games or so. 1/2

Doug Stein @steindoug.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
I don’t think the pre-season is about whether Reinbacher, Engström, F. Xhekaj or Beck make the roster or not. They won’t. The point is, injuries happen and Montreal appears to have incredible depth which cannot be understated. The one thing I’m not sure about is who will be 2G.

I also want to say for the record, that unlike many who were disappointed Mtl wasn’t able to acquire a notable player in the off-season (no disrespect to 22), I am fine with it. I believe those same folks greatly underestimate how much of an impact Mtl’s steadily improving core can have this season.

It’s funny how much some people read into preseason performance, because I don’t at all. That said, it’s still nice to get the wins because, for many, many years, Habs teams didn’t win much in the preseason and it often ended up being a sign of bad things to come.

One year it is for Xhekaj. Not surprised at all.

Doug Stein @steindoug.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
Once Montreal realized that Waddell wasn’t going to budge from the king’s ransom he was demanding for Marchenko, they pivoted to Kreider and then re-upped Bolduc. I’m curious if Xhekaj will get more than one year and at what $ amount.

Doug Stein @steindoug.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
Sorry but, winning the cup > crying about Kreider.

Gorton and Hughes proving once again that all we can do is guess and mostly get it wrong. Hope I am wrong about the culture fit too. Habs get a one time 50 goal man, and one of the best net front presences in the league. 😳

Doug Stein @steindoug.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
You can’t honestly believe Hughes and Gorton would trade 2 roster players (Bolduc and Engstrom) or 3 if Beck pans out, a top prospect, and a first-rounder for a winger (not a 2C) and someone who doesn’t want to stay in Columbus. Come on.

Doug Stein @steindoug.bsky.social · 10/09/2026
More of an educated guess but fair point.

1. Kreider will not sign with a Canadian team. 2. He is not a good culture fit for the Habs. 3. Name a player that Hughes/Gorton acquired that anyone predicted beforehand? Come on guys.

Ancient history as far as I’m concerned, but I don’t think he fits Montreal’s psychological player profile because he seems like a bit of a dick. Because of that and because he is “Born in the USA,” he probably won’t want to sign here. You read it here first.

Stan Bowman signs Alex Formenton because, well, of course he would. And with Babcock and Bowman together, I predict a total 💩 show in Edmonton. 😒

Bit of A and B. Trade/free agent market is not appealing, and he has a plan. We can try to guess what it is, but there's really no point unless it’s just for fun.

NHL coming out with “Hometown Remix” jerseys this season and I hope to heck they are not as hideous as the reverse retros. 🫣

If he doesn’t get injured, maybe. It’s so hard to get an accurate read on a player based on AHL performance because of the vast disparity in talent. He possesses a skill set that suggests significant potential, but reminds me of a certain Kirby Dach. If he can stay healthy, he could help.

When it comes to this Canadiens mgmt team, where there’s smoke, there’s never fire. If you’re reading about potential moves, the odds of them happening, based on history, are pretty much zero. If a trade does occur, we’ll be the last to find out. I have absolutely no issue with this whatsoever.

Nothing doing with Marchenko, and anyway, even if there were, who do you think Montreal is giving up to acquire him? I certainly don’t know, but I can tell you it wouldn’t be insignificant.

So many questions here. Is this a giant woodpecker or a tiny weasel, or a really teeny weasel on a small woodpecker? Did the weasel commandeer the woodpecker? Was there an agreement? Where are they going???
