Hey, I get it. The salary cap expanded. There's a lot more money in the pool to split. But 7.2 times 6 for a guy with 14 games under him? Ooh boy, that's a big leap.

Brian is the best in the biz. Sometimes I enjoy reading these more than actually watching the games. Check out the COTW after each Habs game.

I am sorry I have to make such a sad appeal to you all. Please, if you enjoy the work, repost it. Each year it’s a mystery whether the COTW continues. Only through page views does it avoid the axe. Thank you.

83 to go. The Canadiens open their season with a mature effort. It wasn’t spectacular but it was an intelligent road game. The win in Toronto in the season opener of the Call Of The Wilde for Global Montreal globalnews.ca/news/1207663...

The Montreal Canadiens drew the Maple Leafs in Toronto and it was a match-up that Montreal has struggled with, but not this time. The Canadiens posted a tight 3-2 win.

I went to Albany and I watched Gavin McKenna in the regionals for Penn State. He had a rough night. Tonight he has a 22 percent Expected Goals so far tonight. He's going to be a great one. I'm not making a comment about his long term success. However, I'm not the sure he's ready for this yet.

Marchenko is excellent tonight. Easy to see why Hughes was interested in him.

Very impressed by Anderson. You could see him waiting for the puck to drop enough to be a valid goal. I've seen players a million times on that play not wait. Impressive. It's 1-1.

A long time issue for the Canadiens bites them again. Montreal is scored on only 48 seconds in. The early goal against yet again begs the question why does the club have so much trouble starting the game on time.

Panthers and Canes 0-0 after two. Let’s hope that’s not what the NHL is going to look like this year to find success.

It’s the same 50-50 split of revenue as it has always been. Nothing has changed here. The winners are the GMs that locked in long term their best. The losers didn’t see inflation coming all over the world. It’s not just the price gas and the price of milk, Folks.

Marchenko gets 6 times 12.5 So the Leafs have some cap work to do now I believe. Puckpedia will update soon. But first thought is wow it’s weird getting used to this new normal of 12 million thrown around all over the place.

Jesus, Dylan Larkin, why don’t you just say exactly which city you will play in. Seems you don’t want to be anywhere. Who would want that guy on their team. What a malcontent.

There’s impatience for HuGo to complete their roster. Relax, People. The cup is not won in October. At around American thanksgiving, about 12 teams realize they’re sellers. And this year, there won’t be 20 buyers. Half the league, will face cap crunches. This is when HuGo pounces. du calme.

Honestly, I’m not at all sure why the Leafs were so hell bent on moving Knies. Helluva young player. Good playoff guy too. I’d take him on my team any day.

Canadiens send down Reinbacher and Fowler. This is about them getting big minutes. Engstrom stays up. That’s about him not benefitting from any more minutes in Laval. Florian stays up. He may have made the starting lineup opening night. Surprise of the camp.

Montembeault extremely sharp. Think he will be the backup. This allows Fowler to play lots of games in Laval which isn’t gonna hurt him.

Montembeault with a fantastic sequence. Don’t know who is getting the back up job but he isn’t just passing it on.

Canadiens tie it up in Montreal with a howitzer on the PP by Dobson. Caufield and Slafkovsky with the helpers. 2-2.

Canadiens tie it up on what Chris Kreider was brought here to do. Kreider in front of the net picks up the garbage and carries it home. Suzuki and Matheson the helpers.

Florian Xhekaj killed a guy again. He’s destroying guys with legal hits. Nemec in a lot of trouble. His shoulder is not where it’s supposed to be. They gave him an interference penalty just because the guy is so bad off.

The replies are missing what’s happening. It’s not a Brière thing or a RFA thing. It’s simply the same 50-50 split of revenue is way up. Half of the revenue goes to the players. Same as always.

Lane Hutson today on playing alongside David Reinbacher: “He made it pretty easy for me. He killed a lot of plays, kinda disrupted a lot, so we didn’t have to defend much. He’s easy to read off of, he positions himself so well. I’m excited to see what he continues to do.”

Kris Letang on Ivan Demidov earlier this summer: “You give him three years, and I think he’s going to be close to the top 5 (players) in the league. Pavel Datsyuk was hard (to play against). Demidov makes me think of him…He reminds me of Datsyuk.”

Caufield. He doesn’t need much of a chance to convert. Another pinpoint shot. An overtime winner. You’re not gonna believe it but Hutson set him up. Dobes superb breakaway stop just before it. 3-2 Habs win.

The ol fake the pass trick. Caufield knows the goalie is gonna think back to Hutson. Instead he goes short side. 2-2. Caufield and Hutson have tremendous chemistry and understanding.

Okay, I understand this is a very popular sentiment. And with that said, if you agree with this, he has to make the team to play. He’s not making the team to sit. He needs hockey time. Not press box time. So which 2 guys does he beat out.

Florian lays out Cozens. Floors him on a hit where he had no leverage, so it was surprising how hard Cozens tumbled. Cozens shown at the bench testing his neck. It’s with good camps does one plant the seeds for their future.

Brian Wilde @bwildemtl.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
Not sure without injuries that there is a spot for Florian next week. There are simply too many contracts right now. But they want to be a bigger, nastier team and that’s how Florian gets on the team when there aren’t 13 forwards ahead of him.

Struble was victimized on the first goal. He recovers with a tally of his own snapping a 20 footer. Florian Xhekaj doing exactly what he has to to be an NHLer. He was an aggressive and frightening F1. He forced the turnover that led to the goal.

I don’t wanna be a jerk but Montembeault just allowed the first shot on goal to score. 1-0 Sens. He went for the near side poke check which left him no chance when it went behind the net out the other side.
