It’s currently illegal in WA to operate a robotaxi without a human driver present. But it’s not illegal to hire someone to manage a program.

Hi friends! Just a reminder, Monday is the start of Election Year Activity communications freeze. That means this account will go quiet until November. If you can't be without my crackling insights or you just want to see pics of my cat, I'll still be chatting on @juliareedwa.bsky.social

It’s a beautiful time of the year when the earth and all on it can embrace the spirt of renewal and rebirth. If you’re celebrating Easter today as I am, I wish you a joyous day! If it’s your season of Passover or Nowruz or Holi or just cherry blossoms, may we all enter into renewal together 🌸🐣🔥

I voted for this bill because it was better than nothing but honestly, only a smidge. Smartphones don’t belong in classrooms, and we shouldn’t be afraid to say so.

This reminds me of a really good article I read about wealthy New Yorkers after Mamdani got elected saying they were going to move to Florida and then finding out they’d have to actually…move to Florida to avoid NY taxes and that was less appealing.

Also, there aren’t that many places people can move where they’re not paying an income tax! Because almost all states have them!

The best sign in the world is the one that says Sine Die! It’s been a truly historic session and a pleasure to follow along with all of you! You can keep in touch at @juliareedwa.bsky.social over the interim, and hopefully I’ll see you back here in November! #waleg

Proving that anything can happen on Sine Die - we were just about to pass the Capital Budget and someone in the legislative building pulled the fire alarm. You can't make this stuff up. #waleg

Data Center bill has passed. Now we're working on passing the Operating budget. Passing the budgets is the only thing the legislature *must* do every year, according to the state constitution. Ready to cast my vote! #waleg

It's been a big day for milling -- the legislature's second favorite thing after passing laws. But now we're taking up HB 6231, which is an early sunsetting of tax exemptions for data centers. This bill is very necessary to implement the budget, so it has to be done before the budget passes #waleg

Lovely moment for all of us as we honor retiring State Representative Steve Tharinger on the floor. Rep Tharinger is a real one, and he'll be sorely missed, especially by this slightly wild young legislator that he mentored. I always loved finding a way to make Steve laugh #waleg

We’re doing concurrences on a bill about cannabis cooperatives, and Republican speaker says she doesn’t believe cannabis growth is agricultural production, but instead thinks it is drug production and that it’s offensive to call it agriculture because farmers don’t grow poison. Sine die! #waleg

Many other states have transmission authorities and they help the state partner with all the players in the super complicated electrical generation and transmission world. Rep Ramel explains this will reduce costs, and expand access to energy #waleg

Anyway back to electrical transmission. For a longtime we've partnered with the Bonneville Power Administration to ensure we are producing and moving electricity to where it's needed. But the BPA has been cut a ton by the Trump administration. So this new authority will help. #waleg

Next up we're doing SB 6347, which addresses the estate tax. We significantly increased this last year, making us the highest in the nation, which isn't great cause we end up collecting nothing if well to do people move out of state before they die. This brings us back to the previous rate. #waleg
