Bill number 2: signed, sealed, delivered into law! This was for HB 2363, a trailer bill to my first ever gov-signed bill — HB 1247, creating a music therapy licensure — Look at this exhausted but happy face. #waleg

You can see all the amendments on the House Floor calendar: app.leg.wa.gov/far/House/Ca... Look for SB 6346, and click the little carrot next to the "A" #waleg

There are other Black organizations who have spoken in favor of this bill, including the Tubman Center on Health and Freedom. Who had this to say #waleg

This is a fun thing to learn. The NRA used an image of jackbooted, goosestepping thugs to illustrate the question "What's the First Step to a Police State" and it lead George HW Bush to resign his membership in the NRA. Ah, the good old days. #waleg

Rep Brianna Thomas may have pulled off the greatest bipartisan action of session today: In support of her proposed constitutional amendment to allow the legislature to set its own schedule(app.leg.wa.gov/billsummary?...), she and Rep Walsh wore *matching* argyle sweater vests. #WalshWears #waleg

We're getting a presentation in the House Transportation committee comparing WA to other states. This graph on road condition is measured by the amount of "vertical bounce" your vehicle has. Bouncier roads = less good roads. #waleg

My testimony in support of HB 2098, the Affordable College for All Act. This gives WA families earning 100% median income or less a paid higher education (degree, apprenticeship, or cert). @uofwa.bsky.social and @pullman.wsu.edu are testifying opposed. Guess they don't want more students? #waleg

Having a great time at the @arnoldventures.bsky.social Housing Master Class, connecting with bipartisan legislators from across the nation on policy — and not just because Jess Bateman is here! I *rarely* get a chance to attend this kind of PD so it’s a real treat. #housingforall

Interim for me usually means lots of meetings and emails, but sometimes it’s also something super fun and cool! It was an honor to read the proclamation making today Sue Bird Day statewide and to watch the unveiling of Sue Bird’s statue at @climatepledgearena.com ! #Seattle #Storm #GOAT

Delighted to be here in the “Quad Cities” (shout out West Richland) for the Joint Transportation Committee meeting. Saw some awesome roundabouts today, which may not seem that exciting but they’ve lead to a major reduction in crashes across the area! #waleg

Unbelievable to be here at the celebration of life for Frank Chopp, a true giant of our era. If I served twice as long I couldn’t hope to do half as much for the people as Speaker Chopp. Gone too soon. #waleg

At 90 years old, she rose from her walker and danced at her grandson’s wedding. Her life was long and rich in love. And now it is ended, and we are left with our memories. May eternal light shine upon you, Lillie Pearl, my grandma.

She was born into a world where Black people had almost no legal protections. Her husband served in a segregated military. She lived to see a Black president of the United States. To see her children earn doctorates. To see me elected. To meet her great grandsons

She was raised by her grandmother in the Jim Crow south. She graduated from high school, married young, and migrated with her husband to Ohio. She had no desire to be buried in the South, and per her wishes she’ll be buried in Dayton, next to her sister, who she helped raise

She was no nonsense and did not suffer fools. She kept a house so clean you could eat off the floors. She was not a good cook. She believed in dressing well every time you left the house and in proper behavior from everyone. She loved Western movies, Motown music, and Jesus.

I had planned to attend the memorial service for Shawn Yim, the King County Metro driver who was killed recently — but then I found out my grandmother passed away today, so I had to pivot to family time. My Grandma was an incredible woman, born in Tuskegee, AL June 21 1930

I'm in Portland visiting my parents ahead of the Cascadia Innovation Summit, so it's time for a trip down family memorabilia lane! My great grandfather, who immigrated to WA from Scotland, wrote this during WWII. He was a ln enthusiastic amateur poet, I like to think I inherited his love of letters

Poem that reads: “After the war is over, and freedom’s cause is won, after the warlords are vanquished, and we’ve set the “rising sun,” Let no man go in hunger, on greed we’ll put the ban, The peace that I am longing for is the brotherhood of man.” By George E. Grant
