However long it took for them to get clean and show some sort of interest in being part of society again. More than the zero time you seem to be proposing. Probably a year? I think that's the low end of the spectrum for arson causing property damage? Include their time in the involuntary care too

And no I'm not gonna go look for all the cases of violence or destruction, not all of them make the news either. This seems like a similar issue to when they decriminalized drugs and then had no wrap around supports to help the people who were addicted just the other side of the street.

100% agree we need the housing supports for them. In my community they're building more and the new ones they purchased in the last few years are full. There's a bunch of people who fail out of those programs that need voluntary beds too.

For most? No. We're not talking about putting everyone who has ever touched an opiate in Alcatraz. We're talking about a few dozen people who are running rough shod in their communities. Are you ok with people who destroy your workplace or home or take a kid's bike for any reason?

Pretty loaded question. Assuming they are driven to theft to pay for their habit. First time? Probably nothing? Dozenth time with property damage to homes or businesses, violent behaviour? Some amount of time proportional to their crime and including the involuntary care in that time served. You?

Also, some of these people are on the streets committing crimes to fuel addiction or whatever else. Some of them do deserve incarceration but in a system that treats the addiction first. Involuntary care beds are extremely useful in this situation, especially with repeat offenders.

Fair, I've been hoping for that for years. Unfortunately we're too focused on not spending money on health care rather that improving it. Housing is a huge issue on its own but I have seen a huge uptick in regular and affordable and subsidized housing being built so hopefully we're dealing with that
