Sunday mornings, he would close himself in his room, and you could hear the squawks, squeals, and squelches as he searched for connection as far away as the Black Forest in Germany, while you and your brother tried not to disturb him.

I loved Fleury's short story collection I Blame Myself But Also You, which was more of a weird speculative-ish fiction vibe, so I wasn't expecting The Shitbird to be a realistic Coast Guard noir satire. But it works and it's great.
