Update to my Saturns. This goes: 2015, 2016, then annually from 2020 onwards.
9 telescopic closeups of Saturn presenting in a horizontal row, oldest captures on the left with poorer technique and equipment going through to run of clearer images. The ring tilt can be seen going from open to closed, and now opening in the other direction.

Throwback to that time I signed into a new season of #DestinyTheGame with my hunter--who I hadn't used since Halloween and was still in costume as villain cannon fodder--and got thrown straight into this cutscene of Eris Morn treating a vex goblin like her trusted research partner. #destiny2

This is my experience with basically every service where I've tried switching to passkeys or other passwordless sign-ins. Loops, dead ends, needing third or fourth factors because two aren't enough, needing a SPECIFIC google app on my phone that they change every time, etc..

Needed to see the version history on a file in my OneDrive. Even though I am signed into the local OneDrive client, it asks me to authenticate when the browser opens. I have a passkey already, but then it also sent me a 2-factor text and now is requiring I add another email address, no skip options.
A microsoft signin dialog that clearly shows an email address at the top, asks for an email address, and rejects the email address that has been entered because it needs a NEW email address.

Same. The TechCrunch headline here though is overstating pretty dramatically by saying "hottest new hangout". "This American Life" told the story of a single group of kids doing this. There was no indication then and no new info in the TechCrunch article about it being widespread or common.

it's funny but also a reminder that the fundamental premise here is that a Black man can't be objective when talking about race while a white man can because Black people do identity politics and white people do facts and this my friends is what I have named "white empiricism"

Got it, thank you! I can understand that objection. I guess I can see how they ended up there though... taxing by miles driven would be difficult to figure out. And taxing by kWh at charging stations would mean ppl who charge entirely at home never pay. A tricky problem!

I'm bringing home my first EV tomorrow, but this doesn't sound crazy to me? I thought road maintenance was partially funded through gas taxes as an indirect sort of "the more you use the roads, the more you chip in" thing. EV drivers still use the roads. What am I missing that you dislike here?

Like Marco, I bought my current pack about ten years ago by walking into a Staples or something. It wasn’t easy to find within the store then though! Thankfully you can use even a single sheet dozens of times. I seem to have lost a bunch though! Didn’t have enough for every group this year.

TiVo really sent this update saying "we are disabling the commercial autoskip but are pleased to share a new commercial autoskip service for additional fee". They've enshittified so badly I almost don't mind my TV provider is--later than most!--completely discontinuing CableCard support soon.
Screencap of an email reading:

Beginning November 2, 2026, the current version of SkipMode, using the Skip Button on your TiVo remote, will no longer be available. You will still be able to skip commercials manually using the 30-second skip and Fast Forward buttons on your remote.

We are also excited to share that in November we will be testing a new Premium Auto Commercial Skip add-on service. You'll have the opportunity to try the service for free for 30 days and decide if it is right for you. After the 30-day trial period, you will have the option to opt in and add it to your TiVo account for an additional monthly fee.

satin ribbons

After unexpectedly winning her first blue ribbon for a sewn cape in 1981, Carol St. Clair Johnson developed an enduring love for the New Mexico State Fair. The quilt Fair New Mexico-41 Fair Years incorporates more than six hundred of the ribbons she won at the fair every subsequent year except 2020 (when the fair was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic). Johnson earned ribbons for needlework, knitting, crochet, pies, cookies, cakes, canning, jewelry, flowers, vegetables, and potted plants. The title of the quilt is a reference to the state song, and the design places the state's Zia sun symbol at the center. The quilt earned Johnson yet another ribbon: Best in Category (miscellaneous quilt) at the 2023 New Mexico State Fair.

A year ago I sat on my roof and saw one of the most incredible lightning storms I've ever seen. From sunset to 2am, it was a constant multicolor display over the horizon followed by a grand finale of purple crawlers exploding over the backyard.
Four long exposure stacked photographs of intense and colorful lightning over neighborhoods and palm trees.

Isn't the fire drill version when 2 or more people get out of a car (at a red light for example) and run around it before getting back in? I think usually into different seats but maybe just back into the same ones. Or maybe that's some other racist fire drill and not a Chinese one.
