Sam Altman: “Public. Listen up. I don’t want or need your tens of billions of dollars. Keep it. I’m good.” Sam is such a salesman—he wants people to believe that it is OpenAI rejecting the money of public investors. This does not pass the smell test. They must have cold feet about valuation.

It seems that these FBI hackers are most likely a bunch of kids in their parents’ basements, spread out over many countries. Only a bunch of kids would make demands like this of the FBI, and think forswearing a ransom makes them more noble. They probably do not even know each other’s real names.

This is shocking behavior by Alito. I thought that he did not believe in recusals. But it is not just Alito. Given the varied interests held by many federal court judges today, there are far too few recusals in cases on the federal bench. The conflicts bar is too high for the federal judiciary.

I do not think that Iran had much, if anything, to do with this. It looks like the Houthis sense weakness and opportunity and they are taking it to the House of Saud. The Houthis seem to think that they can consolidate some gains on the Yemeni coast and make the Saudis re-think their ambitions.
