Long Branch is a suburban node with a library, community/rec center, and a lot of commercial. Also some housing density and trail connections. Hopefully it works well with the Purple Line!

Metropolitan Branch Trail construction in Silver Spring. This section will connect the metro station (ultimately including the Capital Crescent Trail) with the southern part of town, where existing trail connects with Takoma. The overpass at Georgia Ave will be great!

Bottleworks Lane Park recently opened in Silver Spring! Looks like a really nice addition to the southeastern side of town. This spot was some kind of car business before if I remember correctly.

The available bus service is pretty good, but the infrastructure is a bit lacking the way funding is just a cheap plastic sign outside; I didn’t see any wayfinding inside the station.

Raleigh Union station is a really nice, and it’s great to see this kind of investment in a modern station. But the urban design is kind of a work in progress.

Worth noting that the current service will be greatly improved by S line project, with a more direct alignment and 90-110 MPH track speeds.

Speed recording: mostly 79 mph with some slower sections. Average is around 55 mph including stops. I noticed a lot of padding (made up 15 minutes of delay leaving Washington and arrived early to multiple stations, totaling about 20 minutes).

The path is generally pretty nice, but has a few intersections that really don’t work on a bike, so it feels more like riding on a sidewalk.

This will be a super interesting experiment. I’m not sure if the use case makes a ton of sense (commuters from Germantown, Rockville etc heading to downtown Baltimore) but I applaud the creativity! I hope to try this at some point for fun.

While the trip was nice overall, I really noticed a lot of schedule padding with the Vermonter yesterday. In addition to layovers in New Haven and New York, we arrived to Baltimore 15 minutes early. The overall time could be cut by 30-60 minutes if everything was optimized.

We are deeply disappointed to learn that County Executive Elrich once again baselessly plans to veto the appointment of dedicated and experienced affordable housing professional James Hedrick to the Planning Board. We call on the Council to overturn this veto, as they did unanimously in 2023. (1/2)

The Pulse bus is pretty nice. A good example of what’s possible for an upgraded bus service, although some of the corridor feels very car centric still. As with a lot of US systems, integration with local buses seems like a missed opportunity.
