I just finished The Owl Service by Alan Garner. The idea is captivating - an adaptation of the Welsh story of Blodeuwedd set in the late 60s. The writing is definitely British with a lot of Welsh words/terms. As a non-Brit, I needed a moment to get into the rhythm of the writing. #spookyseason

My dad brought this home on VHS and thought it was so great that the kids should watch it. For some reason, we couldn’t watch Sat Night Fever bc, it wasn’t age appropriate, but this, this was just fine. Scarred for life. (But it is a really good movie!)

I like to have paper maps of cities I don’t know so I can try to figure out where I am in relation to where I want to be. Screens just don’t show enough detail and the necessary scales. I’m also of the pre-GPS driving era (and studied GPS).

Volunteered today - park clean up. Witnessed teens being non-functional. You would think they had never seen a broom before. One girl was picking up individual leaves with a picker-upper tool. Individual leaves. I was in an “I hate humanity” mood before I got there.
