You know, I kind of miss when Nintendo tried to port more retro consoles besides their mainline and the Sega Genesis. It was so cool to have TurboGrafx 16 games on there like Bonk's Adventure. And now they don't even bother with that. Kind of disappointing.

Gotta say, being a game journalist has to be so damn soul crushing. Like, imagine having to write a review on a 100 hour game that is as dull as watching paint dry. You STILL gotta commit and write it, probably within a week since the review embargo is usually shortly before release.

Alec Karde (SQG Review Show) @sqgreviewshow.bsky.social · 28/09/2026

Watching Gilmore Girls Season 4, Episode 15, and Dean is playing a Mega Man X arcade cabinet of some sort. Does anyone know what this is? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall X ever having an arcade release. Interesting detail. Like Dr. House playing Level 4 of Metroid Zero Mission.

Alec Karde (SQG Review Show) @sqgreviewshow.bsky.social · 25/09/2026

And that's a wrap for DK64. Honestly? It holds up very well. I had a lot of fun doing a revisit. It also cements Donkey Kong as my favorite platformer series since the weakest game is now King of Swing. I'm sorry I ever doubted DK64. It didn't kill a genre. It just took it to its limit.

Just completed Gloomy Galleon and surprised myself. I remember this being my least favorite of the worlds, but I no longer agree with that old assessment. I used to be annoyed with the water level buttons, but with great swim controls, no breath meter, and great exploration...might actually be....

Gotta say, Lanterns had EVERY reason to be awful yet despite grounding the setting to a small town on Earth and showing a version of Hal Jordan who has lost his sense of heroism and is more like Han Solo, it should be terrible. But goddamn, so far it's PEAK DCU. I am loving John Stewart's journey

Been replaying Donkey Kong 64 for first time in a long time. Haven't done a real playthrough of it since i was 13. Last time I kind of played it was for stock footage in a time collectathons just weren't my forte anymore. Now, I'm back into them and it's honestly been a lot of fun.

RENDERED! The culprit was that GPU acceleration was on. I had to disable it (I thought I did). Eighth render was the charm.

Alec Karde (SQG Review Show) @sqgreviewshow.bsky.social · 29/08/2026

So I rendered the whole video in sections, but a new project file with just the four sections on the timeline and I STILL get the corrupt file rendered video. So, looks like passed the 40 minute mark is where it refuses to render.

Alec Karde (SQG Review Show) @sqgreviewshow.bsky.social · 28/08/2026

I've been having rendering issues. It's pissing me off. So I'm afraid I'm gonna have to delay the video's release for a possible weekend release. I will try rendering parts of the video seperately, and then merge them as one seemless, lossless video in a new project file.

Alec Karde (SQG Review Show) @sqgreviewshow.bsky.social · 27/08/2026

Feels pretty surreal that after a couple years of working on it on and off, the next video is finally ready! It's probably not my magnum opus, but I do think it turned out pretty well.

After watching it with friends a few months ago in its entirety, I am happy to say Samurai Jack is still the crown jewel of animated shows that I have seen. It can be tragic, it can be comedic, and most importantly it can challenge the audience. Not one bad episode either.

Normally, I'd say Star Wars or Lord of the Rings, but they had entries I didn't love. So, I'm gonna go with Mad Max for having the perfect five film run. It was damn good when it was on a budget. It was amazing when it had a high budget. George Miller was on a roll with those movies.

You know, it's been a while since I watched Farscape all the way through. The show was so good, I actively disliked Guardians of the Galaxy for so long due to character similarities. I thankfully changed my opinion on that, plus I gave Star Wars Rebels a pass for a very similar premise.

Watched Supergirl last night and today. It was okay. I don't really see what all the culture war nonsense was about because it's a tame space western, with Kara being the reluctant hero helping a girl avenge her family when the same bad guys poison her dog, Krypto. The first half was a lot...

You know, between Batman: Caped Crusader and Spider-Noir, I have a feeling that Superhero Show, Except It's Retro Noir is going to be the latest obsession like how Multiversal Crossovers became the obsession from the late 2010's to the early 2020's.

For Star Fox '26's Challenge Mode, you CAN restart a level and KEEP your finished challenges. The only progress that's actually lost is the progress to unfinished challenges. Makes sense. I'm just glad I don't have to do it all over. The Challenges are really fun.

Last night, I started Toy Story 4. It'll be the second time I watched it and I remember liking it despite being the weakest of the Toy Story movies. That intro is still really sad. Woody and Bo attempt a daring rescue of RC, only for Bo to be taken away by her new owners afterwards. Daaaaamn

Alec Karde (SQG Review Show) @sqgreviewshow.bsky.social · 19/06/2026

Toy Story 3. It gets better every rewatch. I originally liked it well enough, but thought it was the weakest of the movies for abandoning its whimsy in favor of a bleaker story. Now, I'm not so sure. Like everything great about the first two movies is just ramped up to 11.

Stewart Copeland is a legend. I'll miss his ambient compositions that multiple playthroughs really made me appreciate, but I respect how he has no ill will.

Alec Karde (SQG Review Show) @sqgreviewshow.bsky.social · 18/06/2026

Watching Toy Story 2 which I remember to be my favorite of the bunch. This movie really did its homework with collector culture, but I find it interesting how Woody is retconned as a rare toy from a 1950's TV show and he has no memory of his "fictional life" like Buzz did in the first movie.

Alec Karde (SQG Review Show) @sqgreviewshow.bsky.social · 18/06/2026

Finished Toy Story 1. Stil fantastic. Had a very consistent three act structure with that third acts being perfection. Having watched the sequels and going back, it's interesting how 4 kind of forgot that Woody and Bo were an item instead of just close friends. Also, it's super creepy that....

Alec Karde (SQG Review Show) @sqgreviewshow.bsky.social · 18/06/2026

Rewatching the original Toy Story. It's been years since I've seen it. It used to be the childhood movie my sister and I would watch every single day until the tape wore out. Never noticed Annie Potts and Laurie Metcalf were in this. Even Jim Varney of Ernest fame. A lot of talent in this.
