I'm a day behind. Not a good start, but I'm not gonna let it keep me down. Finished the back facing sprite, so now I have all four directions down. Next I'm gonna update some old and make some new head sprites for later. #OC #sprites #sonicthehedgehog #gamedev

I'll be posting my progress on this account again. Picking up where I left off, I now have everyone's current designs in sprite form. What I'm going to do now is focus on getting necessary, basic sprite animations done for each character--starting with Splice. #OC #sprites #sonicthehedgehog #gamedev

Today I bring a demonstration of the game's shops. As a big fan of games where shopkeepers have personality - and let you talk to them - I knew what I had to do #gamedev

Had to do some fixes to stay closer to the reference sheet, as well as some updates i forgot I did for his SRB2 sprites and started wasting time re-doing. I really need to keep better track of my completed sprites. Also I finished a new one yesterday. #sprites #OC #sonicthehedgehog

June is Smash Corliss's (the character) birth month, so my next spriting endeavor is gonna be all about him. I'm gonna focus on standing and then walking rotations for both my advance style and SRB2 sprites. The SRB2 ones are already way ahead in this race, but they could use an update.

The SpTH character sheet is finally complete! I started this back during New Year's and got swept up in a lot of things that kept me from coming back to this. But I'm so glad to finally wrap it up. This is a milestone for all my projects. #OC #sprites #sonicthehedgehog #gamedev

A size chart of character sprites that have been remade. The blue checkmarks over each of them mean that they are all at their most up-to-date designs. From left to right, the characters are as follows:
Splice the Hedgehog, Tab the Cat, Crystal the Fox, Speedy the Hedgehog, Violet the Hedgehog, Pearl the Echidna, Gizmo the Cat, Kitty the Cat Chao, Kitty the Cat Chao (Small version), Kyle the Hedgehog.

It's done! Fortunately, my last attempt at remaking Smash's sprites was actually good enough that all it needed was some quick touch-ups that I'd forgotten to do. But I also wanted to finish the post I left in the sheet, so that one's new! #OC #sprites #sonicthehedgehog

So this is where I'm at with that lineup of sprites I've been remaking. I'm finally at the last one: Smash Corliss. I've made several attempts at updating his sprites before, now it's time to finish what I started. #OC #sprites #sonicthehedgehog

Okay, I think I'm done with this now. I really floundered around trying to figure out how to get the shape right, and then shading a bright white hat was also a challenge. But it's progress, finally! Whew! #OC #sprites #sonicthehedgehog

Two sprites of Captain Thunder, left is old and right is new. Thunder is a yellow hedgehog wearing a sailor uniform. The uniform is completely redone in the new version. This update also includes Thunder's new hat.

I struggled a lot with this one, but the end result is like night and day. Whether it be sprite form or commission art, Keela has had the best glow up out of all my OCs. #OC #sprites #sonic #sonicthehedgehog

I promise I'm gonna come back to finish this soon. I got fed up with some unrelated tech issues which led to another big task that's kept me occupied for the past few weeks. And now that Discord's got -that- thing going on, I think I'm gonna be busy for a while yet. #sprites #OC #sonic

Small update, I’ve more or less cleared up everything I had to do that made me put things on hold. But instead of struggling to jump back into my work again, I’ve been taking it slow with some writing instead. I still have sidequest plots to finish.

Splice The Hedgehog @spth.bsky.social · 23/02/2026

All projects are on hold until after the whole discord thing settles down—or at least until after I finish backing up chat logs. Still on the lookout for alternative platforms in the meantime.

I really need to learn to finish my current tasks before starting new ones lol. I have two more sprites to finish on my sheet from last month but instead of wrapping them up I’m cleaning up and reorganizing my music folders. In my defense tho, it’s something I desperately need to do.

Splice The Hedgehog @spth.bsky.social · 01/02/2026

I was reaaally hoping to finish these by the end of the month but I really started to drag my feet between going back to work and immediately being -out- of work due to the snow storm. I'm only just now finding my footing again but it's already past my bedtime on the final night. Welp

Dude I just realized that I forgot Keela's bang in the SRB2 sprites I made a couple years ago. I went ahead and added that as I started on her Advance style sprite. Speaking of, here's how that's going as well. #sprites #OC #sonic #sonicthehedgehog

Two sprites of Keela the Hedgehog. Left is the SRB2 size version from 2024, right is the head of an unfinished advance style sprite.

Cymbeline is also not my OC, but the second of two guest characters in SpTH. Her owner mostly goes by AngelWings, and she's responsible for laying the groundwork for a huge overarching plot in my main writing series outside the game.

001

Splice The Hedgehog @spth.bsky.social · 25/01/2026

Cy didn't take long because I already updated her sprites pretty recently. That said, there was still room for color fixes, and I never redid her wings. The old wings were taken from somewhere but the new ones are from scratch. #OC #sprites #sonic #sonicthehedgehog

Daz is actually not my OC, but one of two guest characters in SpTH. The owner went by a few names, (off the top my head: DJ_Daz, Dazzle, supersonicremixes) but I lost contact with him during the final redesign of his OC (specifically the color of his outfit). The ref was drawn by FlameEliwood.

It's been a sleepy day staying home in this snowstorm, but i finally told myself to lock in and keep my word so here's Daz's update. Whether his hair looks better or worse now is hard for me to say: Spiky perms or whatever you'd call that style are not my forte. #OC #sprites #sonic #sonicthehedgehog

Two sprites of Daz the Hedgehog. Old is left, new is right. The old sprite is fairly recent by comparison to previous updates, so the outfit didn't change much outside of the gloves (which I had just forgotten to update from an even older design.)

Splice The Hedgehog @spth.bsky.social · 24/01/2026

Nope, didn't even come close. Life happens. I'll make sure to get back on track tomorrow.

110

Splice The Hedgehog @spth.bsky.social · 22/01/2026

I'll start with 4 directions, (for the RPG) and then see how 8 works out. I'm going to slowly, but surely build everyone a proper sprite sheet so I can finally put all this old crust and rust of decades past behind me.

001

Splice The Hedgehog @spth.bsky.social · 22/01/2026

I get the feeling that I'm not gonna be able to finish the next one today, but all things considered I've made great progress these past few days. Once I finish this, I'm going to move on to standing rotations for all of them. #OC #sprites #sonic #sonicthehedgehog

Two sprites of Kyle Tyris the Hedgehog. Left is old, right is new. Left was based on the first draft of his redesign from some years ago, while right is based off the finalized version. Right simplifies some of the over-detailed features of the old one.

Splice The Hedgehog @spth.bsky.social · 20/01/2026

my daily spriting effort is going pretty well. Told myself I'd only do one sprite per day but I've been going a bit further than that since a lot of these only needed minor updates. Pearl on the right is still a WIP, but she already looks so much better. #OC #Sprites #Sonic

Two sprites of Speedy the Hedgehog. Left is old, right is new. There are slight color corrections, an adjustment to his shoes and the addition of his short forehead spikes from his SpTH artwork. Very subtle, finishing touches here.

Two sprites of Pearl the Echidna. Left is old, right is new but unfinished. There are major adjustments to the color palette, making Pearl's fur and hair brighter, skin paler, and clothes significantly less saturated by contrast. Her face has been slightly tweaked, and eyes a lighter shade of blue.

Of course, now that RPG Paper Maker's 3.0 pre release just dropped, I'm going to be spending more of my time trying to remake the game in this new engine. I probably won't be posting anymore actual updates in 2k3 outside of the character spotlight videos and other gameplay examples.

So for #screenshotsaturday, here's my experimental zone title card! It's really nothing fancy looking, but a simple approach is best for this style of gameplay. Zones in SpTH don't play like your typical 2D platformer.

It's been a while! I've been trying to fit gamedev back into my regular schedule with my new day job. Just to get back into the groove of things, I've been experimenting with some game assets and seeing how they look in RPG2k3. I've been scouring Spriters-Resource all week for ideas.

I'm running a little late on the next character spotlight for #screenshotsaturday. In the meantime I've been doing some minor updates to things in rpg2k3 for the sake of visual clarity. I'm not updating any charsets however so I apologize in advance for crusty discrepancies like these! #gamedev #OCs

A picture of the party member, Kyle Tyris the Hedgehog. Art by FlameEliwood.
Kyle is a cyan hedgehog with short hair and spines, dressed in light armor. He wears a chainmail under a blue padded front, with blue and gold pauldrons and wrist braces, black gloves and a gold belt. He wears brown pants, black shoes with a blue stripe down the center and gold cuffs. He wields a magic sword known as The Gemblade. There are six gems embedded in the hilt and pommel, each representing a different element.

A screenshot of Kyle Tyris' state in the game. Kyle uses his old design from the late 2000's. His field ability sprites are incomplete, so his sword simply appears before him with no additional animation.

A picture of the party member, Keela Tyris the Hedgehog. Art by FlameEliwood.
Keela has cyan hair and spines, which are tied up in a ponytail behind her. She has one bang free, curled upwards over her right eye. She wears a long black jacket with red violet outlines over a white undershirt. She wears the same red violet color on her pants and hair tie. She wears blue gloves and blue steel toe knee-high boots with white cuffs and a white strap on her ankles.

A screenshot of Keela in game. She has no ready made sprites, so she appears as a solid blue sprite of Sonic as a placeholder. She fires arrows from a bow as her field ability, but the animation is incomplete so arrows simply spawn in front of her.
