I've known my best friend since we met in basic training in 1985. I knew immediately that I'd found someone who I wanted to hang out with, and that is not something that happens very often to me. We bonded doing endless push-ups and field marches and were lucky enough to be stationed together.

fun fact: inflicting the horrible things you had to deal with upon a group that’s more marginalized than you, just so you can feel some sense of access to power? that makes you a terrible person

TERFs cling to regressive policies for a lot of reasons, a big one being because they were forced to try to meet an impossible standard as cis women, and they believe it's right and good and the only way to be, and all women should be held to that same impossible standard. And it is impossible, and racist, and patriarchal, because cis women have been told all their lives that they simply are not allowed to exist any other way. Be beautiful, be small, make babies, be happy with the scraps you're given and be happy with your proximity to cis male whiteness, because that's all you deserve and that's the best you can hope for. But guess what? As trans women also grow up in this society, we have absorbed all those same messages about what women are "supposed to be."

TERFs are furious that others are free to choose another way. Embracing being trans and nonbinary is an affront to them, because how dare you reject the power and privilege that you get from following all of the gender rules that have been imposed upon you, and that you've been punished for not following for your entire life? Why can't they choose another way? More spoilers: they can, but chose not to because it was hard, and the anger of others doing what they could not is a huge part of their "problems" with trans people. So TERFs choose to oppress us, when in fact they should be looking at why they feel the way they do. And why they've decided misogyny and gender policing is totally fine, when they're the ones perpetrating it! Because it definitely doesn't benefit them, but it sure does benefit the patriarchal cis white heterosexual standard that's forced on everyone from the day we're born.

Concentration camps exist in my country. Genocide is happening, in Gaza, Myanmar, Ethiopia, Congo and Sudan. The empty, silent reminders of camps were not enough to deter this. The history of millions of people tortured and murdered was not enough to stop this. You have to stop this.

Spent the last couple of days in intensive contact with a lot of people I used to hang out with. We're all @60 and I was shocked at how far downhill they have all gone in the last few years. The big difference is that they do not seem to have put much thought into their long-term health at all.

I had a dear friend in the Army who introduced me to most of the music that I would listen to, most of the punk music that I still listen to, including the Cramps, Dead Kennedys, and Black Flag. He stayed in after I got out and wound up being highly decorated. Broke my heart to see him go MAGA.
