Shoot. Will have to wait another 4 years for another crack (it will be my third, hopefully 3rd time is the charm!) at a seat on Lethbridge City Council. In the meantime I will continue to work hard to enhance my community. Remember to support local, friends!

Hoping to be one of the ones on council that will be able to help move Lethbridge forward on this issue. Ready to climb those hills, and lead my fellow councillors to the top if I'm elected!

Am heading to the polls early tomorrow to cast my ballot in the Lethbridge City Council and Public School Trustee races. Folks I am voting for are progressive, come to the table with ideas and energy, and have worked hard to show their commitment to the community. Make sure you get out the vote.

I'm looking forward to being able to support a well thought-out, well-built pilot project for Urban Hens in Lethbridge should I be elected, and should such a project come across Council's desk. What are your thoughts on allowing Urban Hens in Lethbridge?

The interesting thing about getting people to agree that the goal should be transportation “balance” — TRUE balance, not the lip service we’ve been paying in 99% of suburbs that’s really just about slightly less car dependency — is that to achieve such balance, you’re going to have to PRIORITIZE. 6/

How long is too long to sit on City Council? Just curious what your takes are. Personally: I'm not a fan of someone making their whole career as a politician. But I'm curious what you think: how long is too long, and do you think there should be term limits?

History is full of examples of what can be achieved by stalwart action and clear vision. We have a duty to build on the success of workers rights advocates who have come before. Happy Labour Day everyone!

We have to do better for our Seniors who are being hard-hit by the loneliness epidemic. Additional programs and supports will be required in the long-term to help Seniors remain a vital part of the Community.

The ability for folks to stay in their homes longer, and reduce dependence on resources, is directly tied to actions City Hall can take to encourage folks to Age in Place: keeping folks in the neighbourhoods that they have come to love over decades. This election, vote for change at City Hall.

I wish a 3rd crossing was in the works in Lethbridge, but it will be a while yet for that project to be successful. We need actionable policies now to reduce traffic congestion and frustration in the City. Oct 8 - 20 vote for change!

Kel Baird | Lethbridge City Council Candidate @spokewitch.bsky.social · 19/08/2025

The costs of traffic congestion in a city the size of #Lethbridge are astronomical for our local economy and society. As frustration over congestion continues to climb, it is important to recognize that decisions made a long time ago about our development are having a negative impact today.

020

Kel Baird | Lethbridge City Council Candidate @spokewitch.bsky.social · 18/08/2025

We've spent decades building into the problem of traffic congestion in #Lethbridge, so there won't be a quick, easy, or inexpensive fix to the problem. However, there is a fix: encouraging folks out of their cars by having excellent public services and infrastructure. #YQL #elxn2025 #abpoli

It is really weird watching provincial governments take aim at municipal infrastructure decisions as though City Councilors are not also elected representatives... I could crack a joke about staying in one's lane, but I'm just going to let it ride. #Lethbridge #ABpoli #YQL #MuniElxn25

There's massive vehicle traffic back-up in Lethbridge for folks trying to get to the west-side right now as Whoop-Up Drive crossing is down lanes, and a large accident has HWY 3 backed up (hope everyone is ok!) Please exercise patience. This week is Bike-lane/Multi-modal week for my campaign...

Euclidean zoning codes popularized in the post-war suburban experiment mean most residents cannot access healthcare where they live in the city and have to travel to find non-emergency access. This adds an additional burden to access for care, and, frankly, it sucks. Vote Oct 8 - 20 for new ideas.

010

Kel Baird | Lethbridge City Council Candidate @spokewitch.bsky.social · 05/08/2025

"Healthcare is a provincial issue" when trying to attract doctors to your city misses so much that Council can do to help prepare the city to welcome more doctors: like zoning more clinic space, making improvement grants available to existing clinics, setting aside city-owned space for clinic.

#DanielleSmith didn’t campaign on creating an APP, a provincial police force, or ramming through bills that dismantle democracy. I’m re-upping the Wrecking Ball series to help refresh some memories. Albertans deserve to know what’s really happening. #abpoli #ABLeg #cdnpoli #UCPCorruption #yeg #yyc

A bold, graphic protest poster with yellow and black hazard striping, resembling a warning sign. The large title at the top reads, “NO, YOU DIDN’T VOTE FOR THIS” in black, all-caps text. Below are three text boxes listing criticisms of Alberta Premier Danielle Smith's government actions:

"WHAT YOU WERE PROMISED BY DANIELLE SMITH"

"Freedom, prosperity, and parental rights."

"WHAT YOU GOT"

"55 sweeping laws with no consultation or transparency"

"Bill 5 – rewrote election law"

"Bill 46 – dismantled public health powers"

"Addiction criminalized, harm reduction attacked"

"Cabinet control over pensions, curricula, municipalities"

Additional criticism:

"Changes not campaigned on — obscured or denied"

"Passed via omnibus bills and bureaucratic language"

"Rushed through with limited debate"

At the bottom, another box declares:
“Not a mandate – A BAIT AND SWITCH”

To the right of the text, there is an image of a large wrecking ball breaking through a yellow background, symbolizing destruction.

We were informed our family doc was no longer going to practice at the same appointment they confirmed my pregnancy, and we've been without a family doc since. We can do better, and a fresh City Council brings new perspectives to problems passed up by previous councils. Vote Oct 8 - 20 for change.

We fund public pools + swimming programs in an effort to reduce the number of drowning deaths. These are among the public services cities have prioritized over the decades in order to provide better quality of life for citizens, and ensure folks enjoying a day out don't experience tragedy.

The updated Parks master plan enhances our parks through use of native grasses and more localized water retention to reduce the need to irrigate. By reducing our need to irrigate our public spaces (which uses treated drinking water), we can ease pressures on our aging infrastructure and save money.

Kel Baird | Lethbridge City Council Candidate @spokewitch.bsky.social · 22/07/2025

We live in a semi-arid desert with drought and flood cycles and to date we've been pretty unresponsive to environmental pressures. As a city we can explore new programs and incentivize changes in behaviour that will reduce our impact on the environment and save our citizens money.

It's water week in my campaign and as an avid user of our public spaces I can't recall how many times I've wished for a public drinking fountain! Relying on businesses to refill water bottles (look for the Blue W program!) means there's only publicly available water when businesses are open.

For almost 10 years I've been largely ignoring the minimum parking requirements at my business. I know, bad Kelti. However, because we don't use our lot for parking, we're able to host so many more people, outdoor music shows, and events! Minimum Parking Requirements rob local business owners.

As a former member of the municipal planning commission and a massive nerd about municipal design/social connectivity, it's time Lethbridge realize that mixed density neighbourhoods with access to small, local commercial should be prioritized across the city to reduce traffic, collisions, and cost.

It’s always pretty interesting to have some folks try hard to dispute car dependency by describing their conditions that suggest that driving is the obvious choice and other options are non-viable, thereby pretty much describing car dependency, without seeming to get the irony of that.
