It finally happened after 10 years of biking to work…I forgot my locks 🤦🏼‍♀️. Had to strategically sneak past security to bring it into the building. Now it feels like I’m harbouring a fugitive in the conference room. Remains to be seen if security sent someone to track me down.

After my latest visit to the Children’s Hospital book sale, my collection has exceed my bookshelf space, and there is nowhere in my house to put another bookcase, so the only reasonable solution is to move to a bigger house. Turns out it’s not so cheap buying used books after all.

Shopping in the mall when you forget your reusable bag is so silly. No, I’m not going to buy another bag when I have 1000 already at home. But it’s too weird to walk into another store while holding loose clothing that I just bought, so I just made multiple trips back and forth to the car

Do some people have kids with birthdays at a time of year that feels right, or are kids birthdays just inherently inconvenient/overwhelming no matter when they fall? If I could live my life over, I’d try to be more strategic. End of Dec. is pretty bad, but not sold on middle of Sept. either.

One of my kids felt like they hadn’t made any friends by the end of last school year. After 2 days of the new school year, they mentioned 3 names and said, “you know, I guess I could pretty much consider them my friends now.” My heart just about burst 😭. But I kept it super chill of course.

Highly recommend getting off the gas train. It is very freeing to never have think about gas prices. Electric vehicle, electric bike, regular bike, public transit are options that take a bit of adjustment but are so worth it!

Just a nice little side by side comparison to remind me why bike commuting is the best. Driving time estimate 24 min (doesn’t account for the 5-10 min walk to where I park), actual biking time, 27 min. Not hard to decide how I’d rather spend my time on a beautiful summer afternoon.

It’s wild to me that I have 19 first cousins (my husband has around 30!) while my children have only 4. I think it’s a good thing. They have a closer relationship with their grandparents than I did, and I hope it gives space for chosen family to play a big part in their lives.

After posting on the community FB page, I received an apology letter. I’m still confused how this happened, but the person says they talked to “a lady near the tree” who told them they could pick. A weird situation, but the apology was heartfelt and I’m choosing to call it a misunderstanding.

Things my kids have had to deal with in their childhood that I did not: A global pandemic, swimming plans being derailed by algae blooms, pokey zebra muscles on the beach, tornado warnings, vacation plans regularly being readjusted or cancelled due to wildfires.

Had to get new licence plates, so now my Manitoba park pass is invalid 🤦🏼‍♀️. Not the worst thing to pay another $45, but still annoying. The park pass system is even more unfair to people who don’t own a personal vehicle.

A lesson learned after having no option but to drive through the high risk fire area in northern Ontario to make it home: bringing passports along even when travelling domestically isn’t a bad idea. If we had, we could have re-routed through the US.
