It turns out you, me, and Cate Blanchett all share this same empassioned rage against the loud motorized suburban air tube
Image of text from an article: When Kareem Rahma, the host of the popular TikTok series, asked the question that begins every video in his franchise—“So, what’s your take?”—Blanchett answered with one of her most staunch, well-established opinions: “Leaf blowers need to be eradicated from the face of the Earth.”

I've worked with a number of people who hire like this and it literally is that easy up to a point they were amazing work environments specifically because my gender was never a part of working there. no one working there was thinking about it.

healthy consensus rulings rely on the quality of an opinion, not the quantity of people who believe in an opinion. that's the reason representative democracy is good actually.

Crows going nuts, dive-bombing the top of a pine. First 6 then 12 then 24. A gigantic red-tailed hawk emerged, crows swarming, pulling wing feathers and tail. Hawk dropped a large rabbit with a loud thud on the neighbors roof. Now the crows are celebrating like they just won the World Series.

Twenty people
A four frame comic about getting twenty likes on a piece of art online. The first frame shows a smartphone screen with a comic posted on a social media platform. The text reads: "Aw man, only 20 people liked my new drawing...". The second frame shows the artist looking at their phone, sad. The text reads: "Twenty...". The third frame shows the artist looking up in thought, thinking "Twenty people...". In the fourth frame, the artist pictures themselves in an art gallery with their art displayed, surrounded by twenty people looking at it.

So after listening to multiple talks by philosophers of mind who defend consciousness as the substrate of the entire universe, and physicists who invoke quantum mechanics as the source of consciousness, the conclusion is clear: they have no idea about neuroscience, nor any interest to know about it.

Well, since you asked nicely. I don’t often eat Ham salad, nor have I ever attempted to prepare it. I tend to prefer Tuna, Egg, or Chicken Salad. I suppose if one were to do such a thing they would require some Ham, mayonnaise, vegetables of many sorts, and perhaps relish or egg. How do you like it?

expanding on this the single thing that frustrates me the most about modern app tech is if it doesn't work on a user's phone without an internet connection I should not have to always use the internet to access data I want to manage locally

I agree but also think that defying the sort of thinking steadily programmed into civic society by algorithms that thrive off of outrage might have something to do with why not that many people realize it's an option we think using algorithms. when we learn to think with bad tools, we think badly.

the fact that blocking a user hides their reply for everyone, not just the user who blocked them, seems like an extremely toxic pattern for collective sense-making. 1. user makes [xyz claim] 2. another user corrects them 3. blocked, hidden it should be explicitly shown as hidden instead
