I think a lot of them get it, but given a choice between Democratic voters and PACs, they're going with PACs on the wager that voters will have no place else to go. So instead of dealing with its failures, the Democratic party apparatus punches left and/or attacks the voters it loses. Bad strategy.

I winced when the first goal was scored off a rebound. I think it’s a long-suffering Canucks fan reflex

Congrats to the Golden Knights, who got EXACTLY what they deserved: the single worst goaltending performance in Stanley Cup history. Puck don't lie.

🤔
Image of an insta story by BC Greens leader Emily Lowan containing a picture of her and an endorsement of Stephanie Smith: “Stephanie is a true champion for renters and housing justice - I am proud to endorse her for the Vancouver Greens nomination. She is whip-smart, compassionate and brings 30 years of dedicated organizing and policy experience to the table. I have complete confidence in Stephanie’s ability to take on these broken systems and build the collective solidarity we need to win lasting change.”

The thing about conflict of interest is *perception*. A normal taxpayer-funded plaza takes 6-10 months to approve, but if you are a neighbour in the employ of the mayor Ken Sim's office it takes less than four? 🤔 *perception* www.ctvnews.ca/vancouver/ar...

Did the Vancouver mayor’s office fast-track a public plaza to benefit a staffer?
A newly constructed temporary plaza built next to an East Vancouver restaurant is raising questions as to whether it was accelerated due to the business’ connection to the mayor’s office.

Are you a Van Greens member OR are you will to join them BY SATURDAY so you can vote in their nomination race? If yes, PLS vote for my accomplished friend Stephanie Smith @spkr118.bsky.social—a fighter who'd be a brilliant city councillor (that's her in the photo!) #vanpoli www.vangreens.ca/join

This whole concept in LOTR is one of my favourite parts of the whole book. “Evil fucks up because evil people fundamentally cannot imagine that others are not motivated by the same things as them” is another theme that feels relevant right now

Election after election exit polls show that those who consider their economic security as poor vote for the neo-fascist AfD. We need an antifascist economic policy instead of a revival of 90s style neoliberalism. This has become only more urgent in face of the energy crisis.

I'm also the president of my housing co-op, and I've seen first hand the difference that affordable housing and security of tenure have made in the lives of the 203 households who live here 5/

I think we can still do better. So many Vancouverites are looking over their shoulders, waiting to be renovicted or demovicted, and confronted with having to leave Vancouver because there's nothing here they can afford 3/

I was concerned that the motion I spoke to didn't have strong enough affordability and tenant protections. It was defeated, and it came back to council with some of the improvements that I was asking for. As a member of the public, I wanted our elected officials to do better, and they did /2

Hey folks - so word is out that I'm seeking nomination to run for city council with @vangreens.bsky.social. I ran for council in 2022. I'm a housing justice activist - I've advised and represented thousands of tenants. Back in 2021 I had this to say about how we need to do better by renters 🧵

I was lucky enough to be mentored by my union's most experienced negotiator. I was on a committee when he was lead, then he was my wingman when I was lead. He managed to completely support me while never undermining my authority at the table, despite the sexist ER lead's best efforts. Still grateful

Sim says "leaders make mistakes." This isn't the kind of "mistake" that a leader makes. It lays bare his approach to politics - divide the public, instrumentalize communities, subsume ethics for political gain, avoid accountability. Zero integrity 7/

Stephanie Smith @spkr118.bsky.social · 03/03/2026
Sim doesn't explain why he and Zhou only discussed the photo in front of Chinese-language media. When queried about whether he would be providing a Chinese-language statement, he says that they will, but is vague about what media they'll use - not good enough. A clear plan is a bare minimum 6/

Sim doesn't tell us why he let Lenny Zhou take the entire hit for his hateful WeChat video when Sim appeared to be the source of the information - or was the bogus information give to both him and Zhou? To their whole caucus? We have no idea 5/

Stephanie Smith @spkr118.bsky.social · 03/03/2026
Sim says "this is kind of a one-off." No, it's not. As a one-off, this conduct would still warrant his resignation. But it's increasingly clear that this is how he operates, and that's a serious problem 4/

Stephanie Smith @spkr118.bsky.social · 03/03/2026
Sim couldn't or wouldn't answer a question about what steps he would take to verify information in the future. Given that this is not the first time Sim has leapt on misinformation from questionable sources to smear Cllr Orr, it's a question the public deserves to have answered 3/
1192
Stephanie Smith @spkr118.bsky.social · 03/03/2026
Sim says he "had been shown" a photo. He doesn't say who showed it to him, or what was in the photo, or what discussion happened, or why he didn't bother to verify its contents. Amazingly, he also doesn't say "this was false and I unequivocally retract my statement." Just "my comments were wrong" 2/

Just watched Ken Sim's news conference about the lies he told about Sean Orr (and, via Lenny Zhou, about all non-ABC councillors) We are one press conference and a media availability in, yet no closer to answers or accountability. Sim took three questions and bolted from the mic 🧵
