Hi all. I'm going to have a break from social media. If I'm honest I'm just tired of being drawn into the doomscrolling. I'm off to read more, spend more time outside and be more creative. My email is on my bio if you need me. Have a great summer and see you at Matlock! 🩵

The crooked spire of Chesterfield should be considered as Britain's Leaning Tower of Pisa

Well done Walsall. They kept us at arms length over both ties. It's a great first season back in the EFL for us, and time now to rebalance the squad to have a good go at it next season. The rendition of Sailing from the travelling fans at the end said it all. 👏 👏👏

Well over 30 different nationalities have represented Chesterfield FC since moving to the new stadium. 🌎✌️ Statistic thanks to the always amazing CFC history website. @spireitehistory.bsky.social

An excellent exhibition on football fanzins just opened at Leeds Libraries. Well worth a visit, and nice to see some Chesterfield content in there too. ✌️

The nine home draws have had such a huge impact on the points tally this season. Five games to go, but that's the season done. A good first season back in the EFL, all things considered.

I'm on holiday this week at sunny Flamborough, so I'm missing the match tonight. This one feels as close as you can get to a must win. 🤞

Dave - Legends of the Spire @spirelegends.bsky.social · 05/04/2025

It feels like it will be a really tough match today. Two teams in form and both with plenty to play for. Fingers crossed we can add another point or three to the tally today.

I'm finding football autobiographies from the 1940s really fascinating. Tommy Lawton phoning the local paper from a phone box to find out if he's in the England team, and Frank Swift and his 30cm finger span.

You know that Zidane film where they just follow him on the pitch for 90mins? Well, I'm doing exactly the same with Fleck tonight. What a great player.

It's so frustrating not to win that game, but I thought it was a good battle today, and Harrogate probably deserved a point for their performance. Delighted for Grigg, gutted for Donacien. 10pts from 12, so fairly content.

I think we were all really impressed with Bim at the weekend. Strength, pace, and a great attitude. It seems like he might be out of contract in the summer. Could we tempt him here permanently?

A great battling performance today. Won through sheer grit and determination. The best atmosphere in the ground for while too. Well done everyone.

We've only won 2 games since Christmas and sit 16th in the league, but that's all a bit irrelevant right now. Let's be thankful for how lucky we are as a fanbase today and enjoy the game. #Spireites

The greatest gift you can give in life is putting smiles on the faces of others. Phil and Ashley have done this in abundance, and their legacy will leave a shadow for generations.

I'm starting to think even Robbie Weir would improve this team.

Maybe tomorrow's match can act as a bit of a reset for us fans. The players have been through a horrendous week but will be trying to get as many points as they can this last 15 games. Leave any negativity at the turnstile. And sing loud for Ty on 12 mins. #Spireites 💙

Tyrone Williams has today undergone surgery after suffering an injury in yesterday’s game at Swindon Town. Medics will assess the extent of the injury in due course. (1/2)

All the best to Ty. It sounds like a horrible injury. Result unimportant in the circumstances.

Plenty of applause for the club today. Popped down to pick up a signed Tanton match shirt, my lads favourite (great service from Josh throughout). Then met a few of the players in the hub. They are a great bunch.

No doubt a frustrating result yesterday, but I think this work by Martin Creed sums up my thoughts.

Local chums: A man in NE Derbys / S Yorks is known as "Lal" to his pals. Is that likely to be a derivative of a more common forename? (Asking for "Lal" Trueman, our goalkeeper keeper in the early 1890s.)

Morning Spireites! ⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️ What a performance last night! Outstanding front to back and great to see the new guys off the mark...plus a first Chesterfield EFL goal for Ollie after 9 short years! 🫡 It must be so fun to play in a Paul Cook team in games like that. 💙

After messing around with a bit of lino cut printing from an old CFC scarf, I've now turned this old CFC logo into a window sticker. You can grab one here for £2 + postage. 🚙 legendsofthespire.bigcartel.com

Even before their goal, it felt very midtable mediocrity today.

Well, Olakigbe looks like he has a lot of potential and gives us that option on the right. We've all enjoyed Duffy's debut, so that looks like an astute permanent signing. Grigg back in 3-4 weeks, too. I'm still a bit gutted about McFadz mind. 😭

Dave - Legends of the Spire @spirelegends.bsky.social · 29/01/2025

I really enjoyed that performance last night. Some great partnerships forming (Grimes/Fadz, Sparkes/Duffy) and lovely to see a glimpse of what Fleck can bring. Dobra outstanding again. Hopefully, we can keep adding points to the tally and keep the season exciting.

So, Dylan Duffy signs. I'm a little surprised we've signed a left winger, rather than right, but maybe we will see him on either flank. We certainly needed options on the wing.

If they gave out points for passing it around aimlessly near the corner flags, then we would be 20pts clear already. 😐

I'm really looking forward to seeing the team today. With lots of players back, do we switch back to 4231? How does Cook make the best of the bench? Sparks and Fadz straight in? Madden or Pepple to start...or both?

I hope Berry is a huge success at Wycombe. It's a great move for him after scoring some amazing goals for us.

The full back positions are always crucial under Cooks teams, so it's great to see the additions of Sparkes and Donacien this month.

I've been doing a bit of lino printing from a 1980s Chesterfield scarf this afternoon. The old designs are definitely the best.

It's odd but today feels a bit like the start of the season again for me. After a few weeks off the league programme we have a few players in, a few players out, and a bench full of players coming back from injury. 22 games to give it a good go.

Dave - Legends of the Spire @spirelegends.bsky.social · 16/01/2025

Just a few short years ago, it was hard to imagine players of Markanday's quality playing for us again. He's been excellent this season and deserves his chance up the pyramid again. Good luck, Dilan, and on we go Spireites.

It's disappointing to be out, but a good tie and useful prep for getting back into the league programme at the weekend. Nothing was getting past Grimes tonight.

I enjoyed that first half. End to end and quite physical, but the referee letting it run. Dobra quickly moving into pole position for player of the season for me.
