In the 1940s, radios were installed in Madras as a "counter-attraction to drink." It was part of a fascinating constellation of activities in prohibition districts. Gramophone records of prohibition-themed songs were also ordered by the government. Fun @archive.org find! archive.org/details/karn...

Glad to finally get to see Williams College radio station WCFM. Thanks to Josh Picoult for already doing the archival work to trace the station's history. Student amateur radio broadcasts in the late 1930s led to the creation of carrier current station WMS in 1940 and then FM station WCFM in 1957.
