We checked in one year later with Habitat for Humanity in Nanaimo regarding their Building Material Exchange Project. “We've been able to see a real increase in things like salvaged kitchens, appliances, lumber, flooring, a tonne of different materials that have come in,” said Abigail Shakespeare.

After months of advocacy work by the City of Nanaimo, as well as that from local community groups, such as the Newcastle Community Association, Nanaimo will see a supporting housing project shift to a recovery-oriented housing site, more commonly referred to as "dry housing".
