Measles will kill adults voluntarily unvaccinated but it will also kill or sicken those too young or too sick to be vaccinated and those for whom the vaccine doesn’t elicit an immune response. To me it’s no different than us all agreeing not to defecate in our drinking water.

We need a Sarbanes-Oxley for AI. Company CEOs are legally responsible and liable for the actions of AIs they sell. (as well as other officers of the company and maybe even the board) I think safety would actually be taken seriously if this was the case. Crimes require culpability.

Members of congress and administration appointees should be very well paid and highly restricted from how they make money during and for some _after_ their service. Give them a temporary pension afterward and restrict their income. Get the money out of politics coming and going

Rove designed the strategy that got bush re-elected with the smallest majority possible (aiming for 50.1%, they got just a smidge more), so he is as responsible as anyone for moving the US towards a non-majoritarian government. he paved the way for fringe candidates and ideas.

This was only a matter of time. In a very real way, the net effect of networked license plate readers is more like putting a GPS device on a car than it is like driving past individual security cameras. And if police wanted to track you over time w/ GPS device or your phone---they'd need a warrant.

Putin apologists of the right (eg Tucker Carlson) and left (eg Noam Chomsky) got what they wanted: a U.S. government that treats the war as not Russia’s fault, cuts military support for Ukraine, and pressures Ukraine to give up land in exchange for the Kremlin’s word. It has not resulted in peace.

Countries, like businesses, cannot shrink and be successful. You need growth to be dynamic and newcomers are generally the hardest workers. Cutting IRS funding loses $6 for every $1 unspent. Cutting immigration is similar. Throwing good people out is wrong and the way they are doing it is evil.
