Of course not and he was still better at his job than Hegseth.

That's probably true but it's not the fault of democrats as a party. That's an American problem. For now, I'm just pleased to see some of these folks taking the gloves off and aggressively attacking bigots.

Yeah it's a long list but, with the two you've named, there are at least some successes that can be counted. Hegseth has done nothing positive and caused enormous damage in just about every way imaginable.

Hegseth isn't just the worst Defense Secretary we've ever had, he's one of the worst people ever to have any job in government. Honestly, name any scoundrel over the past 250 years and Hegseth is probably worse.

People will criticize him for that but who cares? Calling these people out as the racist trash they are is long overdue.

He's not aware of the limits of his knowledge so he says a lot of stupid things in public and he doesn't strike me as the sort of person who can explain why great art is important. He just regurgitates the correct answer to get the grade. He has no depth.

spectacularsid.bsky.social @spectacularsid.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
For some reason these folks don't like showing their college transcripts. Apparently he ended up with about a 3.9, good enough for high honors. I suppose it's another reminder that good grades don't tell us everything about a person's character or decency.

He's smarter than the die hard maga crowd but he constantly offers opinions on areas in which he has zero expertise, like Catholic doctrine. This has helped him make history as the first American politician to be publicly corrected by not one but two Popes. Actual smart people don't do that.

I'm sure it helped but there was his stint in the Marines and the usual undergrad record and test score. In the end, no Yale, no book. No book, no celebrity.

spectacularsid.bsky.social @spectacularsid.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
Fair enough. I'm sure his hard luck story helped his application to law school. My point is, were it not for the connections he made there, the book may never have been published and we wouldn't have to deal with this guy. Those institutions produce so many Vances, Hegseths and other creeps.

Not to nitpick because I agree he's a liar, but Vance wrote the book while at Yale, with the encouragement of the greatly overrated Amy Chua. So thanks very much Yale for helping to launch the career of this moronic fraud.

spectacularsid.bsky.social @spectacularsid.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
I would guess he thinks of them as elites. Vance is, above all, a jumped up pantry boy who was introduced to the class of movers and shakers by his wife who is most likely a complete snob herself.

I suppose if you only allow people in with "elite specialized skills" you won't have that many immigrants. Which is if course exactly what these guys want. They live in a fantasy world that allows them to wallow in their racism and snobbery.

Trump, being the gaping idiot he is, caused his own problems there. He could have just left Cornyn alone. Much of his life is a series of dumb impulsive mistakes.

In what promises to be the most consequential showdown over reproductive rights since the end of Roe v. Wade, three states with near-total abortion bans asked SCOTUS to strike down blue-state laws that have enabled tens of thousands of abortions every year across state lines.

Shield laws are working. Now red states want the Supreme Court to end them.
The long-expected constitutional showdown over states' rights and abortion rights is here.

I saw a clip of Emanuel sitting in front of and audience and saying single payer or Medicare For All is "never gonna happen." I suppose that's true as long as we keep selecting candidates like Rahm Emanuel. He needs to quietly go far away.

He's rambling alright but he's not wrong to say that a lot of us would like to see statehood for D.C. and Puerto Rico, added Court seats and filibuster reform. If anything he's wrong to assume democrats have the courage to do that stuff.
