Working on a second set of four for a second person! I'm pretty happy with my workflow.
Two cyanotype photos: a view of the Getty building and gardens, a tree shadow on a wall.

Much happier with these this morning. I just have to redo the top right because I had the negative in the wrong direction 🙄
Four cyanotypes of landscapes from Torres del Paine in Child: q lake with mountains in the distance, a scene from a beach with a few mini icebergs floating in the water, a scene with scrubby hills and dark pools of water, and a lake with a hotel in an island in the middle, mountains in the background.

I signed up for a print exchange and am a little worried because the clock is ticking but nothing feels good enough 😭 dealing with contrast too high so the sky is blowing out.
Two cyanotypes of landscapes, one of fields with still ponds, the other of a lake with small ice chunks

My son loves Minnie Mouse, talks about her all the time, wants to be her for Halloween. Mickey Mouse, however, is a non-entity. Could not care less about him. If anyone asks about Mickey it's like

We installed container store shelving in my son's closet and I wish I had a before. This used to be a single wire shelf on top, a hanging rod, and a mountain of shit on the floor.
Closet with elfa container store shelving: one big shelf on bottom with hangers below, two big shelves on the top, a half-hanger and two half shelves in the middle.

Pretty happy with our color selection. This all used to be grey.

I think the exposure on this one is a lot better? Idk I probably have to dodge and burn some why are negatives so hard.

Trying out different paper and negatives of old pictures I have on my computer because I (stupidly) impulsively signed up for the reddit photography print exchange. I am so bad at figuring how to get max detail out of these negatives. They're very contrast-y.

I never tire of pulling this out but it's just general filmmaking and not just Disney. (Side note: I need more Austen adaptations like Emma 2020, what a fun movie.)
Director: well I'd say that's the final cut
Disney exec: not so fast -- first we have to run it by Pazuzu, the demon that eats colors.

My monthly self cyanotype challenge is done, but I'm still on my bs. Still often feels like I don't know what I'm doing.
Cyanotype of three white roses scanned with a shitty scanner. Cyanotype of three objects. From left to right: an orange, half an orange, and a bracelet with transparent round beads and hearts made by a child

Last of the "cyanotypes every day for a month"! Not the best quality, the scanner images are hard to negative and expose properly, but I did it! And learned so much!
Two cyanotypes. Left: cyanotype of scanned wildflowers, leaves, half an orange. Right: cyanotype over erasure it a book page. The image depicts half an orange and a bracelet. Text reads: "PEACE" / Stems of different lengths with own foliage only / Prime Eating Quality heavy with juice.

First little cyanotype erasure hybrid thing? Kinda went for a double exposure that didn't pan out, but I'll give it another shot on the next page I do.

First cyanotype test on endpaper from a book I eventually want to use for erasures. I like the smaller format and more delicate paper. The feathers are actually from a negative. I've been playing around with using my shitty scanner as a "camera."

Picked up this for erasures a while back. Objectively it's an old book with little value and scans and editions out there and no one cares if I tear pages out, but I'm still working up the courage. Feels scary! 😭

Since I'm running out of paper, I am trying double exposure on some less detailed prints I already made.

At day 21, I've run out of the paper in my Canson mixed media pad 💀. I guess for the rest of the days we're going for alternate papers/surfaces I have around the house.

Also I get too excited and usually post right after rinsing instead of 24 hours, so I thought I'd post again so the curious can see how the blue changes even just after drying.

Finally got to use a relative's printer for inkjet negatives on transparency! Definitely much smoother results.

First attempt to print from a digital negative. Negative was on vellum while I wait to have access to an inkjet printer. I have a lot of work to do both on the negative and the print exposure side, but it's still exciting!

Another print in the sunlight through the blinds today, I'm happy with the feathers. Unfortunately the 3yo inadvertently scratched the shit out of my plexiglass cover... Also tea toned yesterday's prints!
Three cyanotype photograms from left to right: three feathers against a blue gradient background, a tea-stained blueish brown plant that looks fuzzy from multiple exposures, the same plant also looking fuzzy but with darker bands in the background
010
sparrowshift @sparrowshift.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
Kind of interesting results for both of these. The right one was probably a bit underexposed, but I lost the blinds on the left for some reason. The shifting position of the plant shadow is actually because of the sun's movement.
Cyanotype of a plant shadow. The plant looks fuzzy, with several shadows superimposed. Very pale cyanotype of a plant in front of the shadow produced by blinds.

Did some tea toning of yesterday's prints. First print is untoned for comparison.
Tea toned cyanotypes. The first is a flower photogram on a bright blue background. The second is a photogram of the same flowers, but tea toned a moodier blue with a kind of vintage feel. The last one is a cyanotype of an egg carton, also tea toned.

Day 6: still not enough details on the flowers. Maybe they're just too opaque? I can see through them when I hold them up to the light 🤷‍♀️ more success with the egg carton, just did it a little late in the day so the shadows are long.
Cyanotype of transparent plastic egg carton with eggs. The whole thing seems elongated. Cyanotype of three flowers and leaves, opaque, with translucent petals.

Day 3: boring compared to day 2. I was going to do a exposure test for the egg carton, but there were occasional clouds so I decided to wait. Did leaves & dried anchovies, then was determined to get details on the leaf so I doubled the exposure time to no avail. I think it needs 20+ minutes.
Two cyanotypes: one of red bud tree leaves on a bough, another of the same leaves with squiggles on the bottom ,(dried anchovies)

Day 2: plastic egg carton with eggs. Definitely will be redoing this one with better-coated paper and better exposure. I also like plastic packaging for these conceptually, so expect more on this theme!

I've decided to make one cyanotype per day for a month to help me experiment and learn. This is the first one I've made where I mixed and brushed the chemicals myself. At first it will mostly be photograms, but I'm hoping to use negatives at some point.

My favorite pieces so far from my second class. Left one is porcelain. Trying to decide whether I want to add handles and make them into teacups.
Two pieces of bowl-shaped greenware pottery on the shelf. The left one has a defined foot and visible throwing rings. The second has a wavy pattern carved into the rim.

Barf. On the mom fb group.
Quick poll.

I’m the one in my house who remembers EVERYTHING. Appointments, meals, gifts, where the shoes are, the never-ending mental list.

I work in tech, and I’ve started using AI (ChatGPT, Claude) to take a ton of that off my plate at home — meal plans, dreaded emails, trip planning, all of it. Every friend I show says “wait, HOW?”

So I’m thinking: a fun, low-key night out — wine, a few women, and I show you how to actually use this stuff for real mom life. On your own phone. Zero tech skills needed.

Would you come? & if you’re down, tell me things you’d hand off in a heartbeat.
