Today I went to the movies for the first time in 7 years! 🎉 My ME/CFS has been too severe for me to do things like that for ages, but I recently started a med that's really helping a lot! It felt so wonderful to do this thing I used to take for granted. We saw Practical Magic 2 and loved it! 💗

Mister Hugo isn't feeling very well at the moment, so please send love and gentle pats if you are able. 💗 We've had him since he was about 6 months old, and he's 15 now. He's only slowed down a little the last year, but he's completely off his food the last few days and the vets aren't sure why. 😭

So yesterday I took the Tobu line into the depths of unloved, untouched Saitama & walked 40min while srsly questioning my life choices & did find a bus back 2 the station but it was actually a van w/ a bus sticker on it that drove in circles & took longer than walking but y’all it was so worth it!!!

The obligatory yellow and black butterfly on a red higanbana shot. All serious amateur photographers are required to post one of these per season in Japan. I am particularly pleased by how this year’s turned out.

Ridiculously red river of spider lilies under canopy of trees losing their leaves. Not one of them is distinct enough from the cloud to know what is is without my telling you. Sort of like that death march passage through Shinagawa station but with flowers instead of people.

When I was trying to get treatment for my thyroid strangling me to death, and showed the neurologist proof of this on my medical imagining, he instead tried to send me to an ME/CFS clinic for "exercise and therapy to help talk you through your trauma". It's the only time I've ever sworn at a doctor.

Awhile back my team translated a game demo, and if it did well the full game would be made. And we've recently heard that it's going ahead. The dev had tons of praise for our translation because the players loved it. Most important feedback? Players loved that it clearly *wasn't* AI translation.

So I spent the last 3 hours being suspended for being a "spammer", all because I manually posted a long, thoughtful reply to someone who asked me a few questions about using machine translation in their indie game. The suspension happened the *instant* I hit "post" on my replies. Fun times! 😵‍💫

Fun fact: "Reviewing an AI made translation" is more work for translators than just translating it themselves, because AI translations do not pass the sniff test beyond the most superficial. It's a loophole companies use as an excuse to underpay translators, and nothing else.

The quilt Fair New Mexico-41 Fair Years incorporates more than six hundred of the ribbons she won at the fair every subsequent year except 2020 (when the fair was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic). Johnson earned ribbons for needlework, knitting, crochet, pies, cookies, cakes, canning, jewelry, flowers, vegetables, and potted plants. The title of the quilt is a reference to the state song, and the design places the state's Zia sun symbol at the center. The quilt earned Johnson yet another ribbon: Best in Category (miscellaneous quilt) at the 2023 New Mexico State Fair.
