Yeah, the cafe car doesn't quite cut it but it gets the job done. The ideal St. Paul-Chicago trip remains Borealis down and Empire Builder back up.

SpainCo @spainco.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

Very much so - we love to take the train to Chicago precisely *because* it means leaving the car at home - it's not an advantage when everything we want to do there is so easily accessible by bus or rail.

Going to be hiring here shortly - it's been a minute (or 3 years) since my last time around at this and I am both curious and dreading to see how much AI use will have changed the process.

The @startribune.com owes @minnesotareformer.com @mwhitler.bsky.social much more credit for this. Following Melissa’s story — based on MONTHS of dogged, painstaking public records work — with the teeny attribution provided here is rotten collegiality. Reporters in lots of places have given this up.

Fair! Basically just need a small sculpture welded to 1/2" thread rod. I'll inquire

Flag pole, so same concept but scaled up and threaded

I don't suppose any of you have a line on where to get a Loon finial? Or a finial-smith who might take a commission?

To clarify (at least to my partner if nobody else), that this refers to the pole and not the flag itself. We haven't gone full Camping World over here

If anything, we barely pre-screen at all - I've once had an HR pass me a candidate whose resume was just a QR code on the basis that it 'looked tech' After that, an experienced candidate looking for a place with some stability and a solid union is a breath of fresh air

SpainCo @spainco.bsky.social · 19/08/2026

Just a note that I'd encourage you to look at public sector employers. Obviously, not an option for all professions, but we hire a broader spectrum of roles than you'd think. We're usually held to a higher standard on discrimination and generally not using AI to screen applicants.

Maine Public Radio's coverage of the killing by ICE this morning. It sounds like ICE is once again claiming that the victim tried to run them over, so just as a reminder, every time they've claimed this, it's been a lie. www.mainepublic.org/maine/2026-0...

Well, if we stick to the 494/694 definition, we'd take the airport and leave Bloomington the mall. That works

110

SpainCo @spainco.bsky.social · 08/07/2026

The next real important question - is Bloomington part of it? I'm personally inclined to say everything inside the 494/694 ring is definitely included. Things that straddle that line do too, so Bloomington (barely) makes the cut on my map.

Prior to 1898, New York City was a collection of various cities until it was combined and reorganized into the city and boroughs we know today. Gets me thinking - what if the same was done to the Twin Cities metro? What's in the new city? What's not? And where would the natural 'boroughs' be?

It's hitting *everything* and that gets passed through to everything else - as someone who occasionally buys laptops by the shipping container, really feeling when pricing for everything is up 15-50 percent. Cloud service costs are up by similar margins, electricity costs as well.
