As for the rest of the box of VHS tapes, they came from foreign language classes, so I have dubbed versions of some big movies from the 80s/90s movies. Most of the front covers were damaged, but you can brush up on your French, Spanish, and German with these photos of the back covers:

Unfortunately, I don't have a VCR, so I don't know what's different between the version that aired and the one that was for classroom use. Maybe one of these days I'll pick up a VCR from Savers and check it out.

Straight Dope was an MTV special about drugs in the United States. It first aired on August 23, 1994, but would air frequently for a while after that. The original program runs about 45 minutes, but this "edited for the classroom" edition cuts that down to 25 minutes.

I'm in the same boat. However, I see that as just being open to opportunities. If I'm not laser focused on looking for any one category of thing, I'll pick stuff up that interests me across a wider spectrum of collectibles.

I saw TRON there as a kid and then saw it again at the very first Ebertfest in 1999. Unfortunately, I moved to St Louis before the second Ebertfest, so I never got back there for more. Sad to see it's done now.

I would typically say "[what's inside] Machine". So, "Candy Machine", "Sticker Machine", "Toy Machine", etc. I don't know if that's common in my region, though. I have heard them called "Capsule Machines" as a more generic term, though.

Yeah, my 13yo dino-loving kid and I had a good time with it. I just thought it was a fun, 80s throwback, family adventure flick. There are definitely some things I'd do differently, but it was a fun distraction.
