I never got his autograph, and sadly never will. But if nothing else, I hope he knows the impression that he made not only on me, but on many anime fans all across the world. Rest in peace, Mike McFarland.

They didn’t force him to. He just did it because he was so dedicated to his craft. This man lived and breathed for English dubbed anime. It was literally his life calling. He is, and will always be, in my mind, the best ADR director of all time.

During the era of simuldubs, sometimes they would run the directors deep into the late night hours, making them work until after dark. He used the pillow to catch some sleep between jobs, so he would get some much needed shut eye right there inside the booth.

He was super nice and friendly and broke down how the recording process would usually go. Megan, Stephanie, and I are just listening to him, nodding our heads and genuinely enjoying the experience, listening to him as if he was a professor giving a lecture at a prestigious university.

So, the only time I met Mike wasn’t at a convention or event. Due to our connections with Godswill, the DubTalk crew got to tour the FUNimation headquarters. So as we’re doing the tour, we got to step inside one of the booths were Mike was working.
