Taken 62 years ago today on September 24, 1964, a KH-7 spy satellite photograph showing early signs of the first soviet N-1 launch pad under construction at Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan. The nearby rocket assembly building is visible under construction. spacefromspace.com/declassified...

This follows the well-known KH-8 GAMBIT-3 satellite image showing one of the vehicles in 1968.
The Caspian Sea Monster at Kaspiysk photographed with a KH-8 reconnaissance satellite in 1968. This wasn't the only image captured at such an angle. I don't remember off the top of my head exactly how many targets were captured in this way, but a large portion of the US east coast was imaged for sure. See the images below of Norfolk and the surrounding area, taken 10 frames prior to the Cape

52 years ago today (July 20), a KH-9 HEXAGON satellite on mission 1208 passed over Cyprus and captured Turkish forces landing on the shore near Kyrenia. An article about this and more with @kennen11.bsky.social: thespacereview.com/article/5049/1 The full image: spacefromspace.com/declassified...

44 years ago today (June 13) a KH-9 HEXAGON spy satellite flew over the Falkland Islands during the Falklands War. The satellite captured the cratered runway at Port Stanley and the burning ship Sir Galahad. Links in reply.

An animated sequence of images taken by a KH-4A CORONA spy satellite horizon camera. The images were taken on August 23, 1965, during mission 1023 as the satellite flew southeast over North Korea. China's Shandong Peninsula is clearly seen.

Even closer. You can see how the launch tower is damaged near the base. Some debris lays in the flame bucket.

Mount St. Helens erupted on May 18, 1980. Just over a month later on June 30, a KH-9 HEXAGON spy satellite imaged the volcano with colour film, revealing the aftermath in high resolution detail from orbit. spacefromspace.com/declassified...

KH-7 spy satellites captured the expansion of Ngurah Rai International Airport, located on the island of Bali, Indonesia, between May 1965 and July 1966. Both full images can be found at spacefromspace.com/search/?q=bali
