Just finished @nataliezed.bsky.social's Villain which is a really entertaining examination of the psychology of superhero villainry. (Though obv you have to read Hench first).

Wow so people don't listen to new music anyone? Honestly I'm shocked

Ugh when my Spanish lesson is just chatting for an hour :(((( I mean, I know it's good practise but an hour long conversation with just one other person would be hard enough in English

#NowHearThis Day 19 Catalan alt pop with traditional melodies and lots of electronics? Sounds exactly like something I'd like. This would have been one of my albums of the year if I'd heard it in time. JOINA - Flama (2025) YT views: 2.1k

#NowHearThis Day 18 Ok let's post a couple more while I'm stuck on a train. There's way too little amapiano on this list but here's another one: Stady K et al - Siyaqhuba (2025) YT views: 7.9k

Honestly hard to remember 33 years ago but my best guess at the top 5 albums the day I turned 18: Nirvana - Nevermind Senseless Things - First of Too Many Pavement - Slanted & Enchanted Moby - s/t Orbital - Orbital II

#NowHearThis Day 16 It's not all going to be weird electronic music though. Here's one of those indie bands that were just as good as any other but randomly failed to break through. Zoey van Goey - You Told The Drunks I Knew Karate (2011) YT views: 111k

Stopped for a coffee on the way back towards Barcelona and the toilet in the cafe is very well equipped

The cafe toilet which also includes a washing machine and a tiny bath. Very handy.

Hiking and cakes (We didn't buy the ones pictured but were laughing at the incredible cream to cake ratio)

Two cakes with a mountain of cream between thin layers of pastry

A hiking path surrounded by pine trees in L'Alt Pirineu natural park

Dan Bright Amaya @spacedan.bsky.social · 16/09/2026

Hike to some big rocks yesterday and it was very hot. Also, don't trust every route you find on Komoot, some people obv enjoy steep sketchy trails that you can barely follow.

A big tower-like rock with a path leading towards it through the trees

A bulbous Star Wars esque rock set against blue sky

A view down the valley to the side of the big rocks with trees in the bottom

More Star Wars esque rocks and trees. These are flatter and look like a good place for some kind of rebel lookout.

Hiked up to a lake and saw some red squirrels

A mountain lake with pines and mountains behind

Mountains with a vapour trail cutting across the blue sky

@bestalbumbrackets.bsky.social 2001 in the wild ... They were setting up a stage in the very well-to-do Costa Brava beach town we're staying in and we thought it'd be some tasteful traditional music but no it's a BANGING DISCO. The dancefloor didn't fill up until they hit the reggaeton later on tho

Off to a very fancy restaurant for our wedding anniversary. Esperit Roca is not quite in the same league as the Roca brothers' famous place but apparently they do some classic dishes from El Celler de Can Roca so very excited to see what it's all about.

Very rare photo of me, looking kind of saintly I think

An ageing guy in a check shirt and trousers looking wistfully at the horizon. The sunset is lighting up the clouds over his head as if in an act of benediction.

I think it's more like "finally being able to afford some fun things" but I bought a motorbike, got into mountain biking and then bought a cheap Porsche. Oh and I got married yay. Don't have the Porsche or the motorbike anymore.

Really don't like the "youngsters are buying CDs and here's why that matters" stuff. Yes there may be good reasons but that's not necessarily why people are doing it. We do all kinds of irrational stuff - eg Gen Xers brought vinyl back into fashion chasing nostalgia for a time we didn't live in.

I'm rereading Hench by Natalie Zina Walschots because the sequel is out now and man if you're into superhero stuff then you should really give it a go. The world of the faceless canon fodder and researchers who you only ever usually see in the background.

The cover of Hench. A red silhouette of a woman whose shadow is wearing a cape.
