They can do ring-stinging political genius but the political/media class is relentlessly hostile simply because of who they are and what their positions are. None of them give a fuck about details. 515425
Dan Bright Amaya @spacedan.bsky.social · 6hAhh yes the tropical sounds of the global group! Two of "my" picks ended up here (the unfortunately named Franco and M'Pongo Love) and am totally torn between them. 020
Dan Bright Amaya @spacedan.bsky.social · 22hAs if I wasn't bad enough at my second language, I seem to be starting on a third. Catalan, here we come. 010
Dan Bright Amaya @spacedan.bsky.social · 07/10/2026I don't know if it's my favourite but it should definitely be on the playlist Niagara - L'Amour à la Plageyoutu.beNiagara - L'Amour à la Plage (Clip Officiel Remasterisé)YouTube video by NiagaraVEVO 000
Dan Bright Amaya @spacedan.bsky.social · 07/10/2026Thanks though I think I should've phrased it better because I'm looking for niche genres that aren't normally represented in the tournament, and not sure Patti Smith would fit that criteria. Will have a listen though. 131
Dan Bright Amaya @spacedan.bsky.social · 07/10/2026One more for the ambient list Idee Du Femelle - Sequences (It says 2021 on Spotify but ignore that)musicamaquina.bandcamp.comSEQUENCES, by Idee Du Femelle11 track album 031
Dan Bright Amaya @spacedan.bsky.social · 06/10/2026If industrial fits the bill then: Esplendor Geométrico - Mekano Turbo The opening track is pretty sinister 010
Dan Bright Amaya @spacedan.bsky.social · 06/10/2026And btw I don't mean it has to be super obscure, just in a genre we don't normally get. So you could pick a massive selling album in Brazil or Japan or whatever as long as it's not in English. 051
Dan Bright Amaya @spacedan.bsky.social · 06/10/2026If anyone wants to post their ONE niche* album that for them is an absolute must then I'll add it to a list and share it so others can copy and nom as well. It's kind of cheating but we could fill the lower seeds with a bunch of interesting stuff. *No Anglophone pop/rock/rap 1264
Dan Bright Amaya @spacedan.bsky.social · 06/10/2026I'd much rather they led with something like "We must end capitalism" instead but I'm under no illusions they wouldn't be condemned as violent revolutionary cranks anyway. 000
Dan Bright Amaya @spacedan.bsky.social · 06/10/2026In the end it doesn't matter what they say, there's no form of words with which you can condemn a fascist state that the supporters of that state will be happy with. Even if you tried to be as careful as possible your critics will gleefully misinterpret everything anyway. 100
Dan Bright Amaya @spacedan.bsky.social · 05/10/2026And this is a deliberate system of keeping the global south as a source of cheap resources and never letting them become economically independent. So even the best intentioned progressive govt will fail and then the far right will come back and make things even worse. 000
Dan Bright Amaya @spacedan.bsky.social · 05/10/2026The boring answer is that both countries have huge dollar-denominated debt that basically means their economies are forever fucked. You can't use your resources to make things better for your own citizens if you need to focus on making stuff for export. 100
Dan Bright Amaya @spacedan.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Rather than rehash a bunch of obvious picks I thought I'd try to capture the albums that made me the listener I am today. 040

Dan Bright Amaya @spacedan.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Still remains pretty astonishing to me that they can run a headline saying we need to boost growth by, checks notes, taking money *out* of the economy and everyone takes it seriously. 100

Dan Bright Amaya @spacedan.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Yep exactly, they complement each other and it's not one or the other. (I also don't really see the difference between keeping your music as mp3s or whatever on a hard drive instead of CDs but that's another argument I guess) 020
Dan Bright Amaya @spacedan.bsky.social · 03/10/2026I love the guy saying "I lost the ability to play a whole album", like what he couldn't physically press the play button anymore? How did this happen to him? 2120
Dan Bright Amaya @spacedan.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Yeah exactly and even music from Mexico but sung in Mixtec wouldn't count. 020
Dan Bright Amaya @spacedan.bsky.social · 01/10/2026No she's not but her music is Latin, at least when she's singing in Spanish. It's a very weirdly defined label tbh in including certain music from the Iberian peninsula and not all music from Latin America. 330
Dan Bright Amaya @spacedan.bsky.social · 30/09/2026This is good to know since I had just added it to my list for the best albums 1988 thing. Amazing single though. 110

Dan Bright Amaya @spacedan.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Just double checking for typos and discovered that Magareth Menezes is now in fact Minister of Culture in Brazil. Fair enough, it's a monster of a tune. Also hope I'm not stealing any of Jonathan's intended noms! 120
