Today is #WorldRadiotherapyAwarenessDay. We're highlighting some of our staff who are working on the TOURIST Platform Trial, the world's largest #ClinicalTrial using radiotherapy in the treatment of metastatic #LungCancer. Swipe through the images below 👇 and find out more at bit.ly/3K5GVMO
An orange themed graphic with a circular photo of Senior Medical Statistician, Kayleigh Hill, on the left and her quote on the right, which says "Clinical trials are so important to help us understand how we can improve treatment and quality of life for patients. The TOURIST Platform Trial is helping give us more evidence about the role of radiotherapy for treating patients with advanced lung cancer.

As a statistician, I am responsible for analysing the patient data that comes in and it's exciting to be working on a trial that, if successful, could potentially see radiotherapy being used to treat more people in the future." At the bottom is the hashtag #WordlRadiotherapyAwarenessDay and the WRAD and SCTU logos. An orange themed graphic with a circular photo of Senior Trial Manager, Nicky Downs, on the left and her quote on the right, which says "Raising awareness of the role of radiotherapy in cancer care is so important especially as over half of people with cancer require radiotherapy. Radiotherapy, or radiation therapy, is a cancer treatment that uses beams of high-energy to kill cancer cells and shrink tumours. Radiotherapy can be used alone or in combination with other treatments like surgery or chemotherapy. Making it easier for people to take part in screening programmes is key to improving early cancer detection rates and subsequent cure rates and ensures that everyone is included equally.
We are running trials looking at other ways we can encourage people to take up screening opportunities, be this a blood sample taken in your local GP surgery or pharmacy, a nasal swab that can be sent in the post, or a urine collection kit sent to your home."

Today is #WorldCancerDay, raising awareness of #cancer and the #research towards better prevention, diagnosis and treatment. #ThankYou to everyone we work with to run cancer #ClinicalTrials, especially the patients who take part. Find out more - www.southampton.ac.uk/ctu @cancerresearchuk.org
Today, 4th February, is World Cancer Day.

It's a day to raise awareness of cancer reflect on the progress we have made towards better prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the disease, and also highlight the need for more research so we can catch cancer earlier, keep improving outcomes for patients and make sure more people survive cancer.

Here at the Southampton Clinical Trials Unit, we run trials looking a better ways to diagnose cancer in its earliest stages, to develop more effective and kinder treatments for patients, and to test new innovations, medical devices and technologies that can improve the way we tackle cancer.

We are a Cancer Research UK funded trials unit, meaning much of our work relies on fundraising and the generous donations from the public that allow ground-breaking research to happen.

We also believe that patients should be at the heart of all research, and we work with patients, carers and members of the public to ensure our trials are always run with patients at the very forefront.

So to all our research teams, our collaborators, our patient and public partners and especially to every single person who volunteers to take part in clinical trials - ThankYou.
