danah boyd recently argued that social media (as we knew it) is mostly dead; what we have now is parasocial media: journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/... I agree. Networked social media is disappearing, replaced by a new logic/structure of content creator, creator-centered community, & algorithm.

Very happy to share my latest writing. "We are analogue creatures. Virtual water will not quench your thirst, digital food will not satisfy your appetite, and AI companions are no companions at all." Let's cherish the analogue, before we damage or lose it. #AIEthics www.ox.ac.uk/news/2026-01...

Do you believe all schools should have a library? 📚 It might surprise you, therefore, that there is no legal requirement for Scotland’s schools to have a school library or librarian. We are calling on Scottish Government to change this story. www.scottishbooktrust.com/our-research...
Poster with the map of Scotland. Title says 'The value and impact of Scotland's school libraries: final report'Infographic quote that reads: 'School libraries are not optional extras; they are essential for equitable education. As librarians, educators, parents and policymakers read these pages, I hope they hear the plea: invest in people, space and resources, and the benefits – raised attainment, better mental health and more informed pupils – will be unmistakable.'

Quote is from Derek France,

Fact:
Research proves having a school library and librarian delivers higher test scores equating to academic attainment, successful curriculum or learning outcomes, and positive attitudes towards learning.
Fact:
There is no legal requirement for schools in Scotland to have a school library and librarian.Infographic card that reads: 'What can be done?

Scottish Book Trust recommends:

1. Scottish Government introduces a statutory requirement for secondary schools to operate a high-quality school library service, staffed by a qualified school librarian.

2. Scottish Government and local authorities work with stakeholders to ensure there’s a set standard of provision across the country.

3. Scottish Government and local authorities work together to empower secondary schools across Scotland with funding and resources to operate a high-quality school library service, staffed by a qualified school librarian.

4. Secondary school management teams appropriately train and support their librarians to deliver a high-quality library service. '

Yesterday, history happened at the UN: For the first time hundreds of orgs signed a global pledge declaring that healthy indoor air is a human right. Healthy indoor air is a key tool for preventing pandemics, building climate resilience, and increasing health equity. We need it everywhere!

We need more trees 🌳 But - believe it or not - simply planting more won’t necessarily help and could lead to forests that are vulnerable to disease, drought & heat. Learn how we're working with nurseries to grow forests that are more resilient to a warmer future 👉 www.kew.org/read-and-wat...

Did you know that there are rainforests in Scotland? 🌳 Thanks to mild temperatures, high rainfall and clean air, the west coast of Scotland is home to fragments of Atlantic rainforest. This rare habitat is home to a rich diversity of species making them hugely important. 💚 #WorldRainforestDay
