This piece is wrong in so many ways. Only National museums in the UK are subsidised to allow free entry. Most others already have to charge everyone, including small, volunteer run places. This means foreign tourists already pay to go to, say, Salisbury or Devizes museum if they want to see...

I know that the in doctrine in English politics is to imagine that cities are occupied by, I don’t know, ghosts, but it is in fact a good and desirable policy aim that all our core cities (aka “population centres”) have good, free museums and galleries.
