What a Test the SA v Aus game has been for fans of players making quarter-centuries but failing to go on to 50. Jansen was the 16th out from 25-49 - smashing the previous record of 14 in a Test. #SAvAUS stats.cricinfo.com/ci/engine/st...

Do you know if it was a tactical choice or to protect her body?

Yeah. I think it's generally easier to score runs off average pace bowling than average spin bowling in the women's game.

Very interesting piece on evolution of tactics both in the type of spinner employed and in how they bowl. (I think the sample sizes are pretty tiny, but the anecdotal evidence is fascinating) What jumped out at me though was the aside that hardly any young players are being encouraged to bowl fast.

Why Is Left-Arm Spin Taking Over Women’s Cricket?
Women’s cricket is in the middle of a left-arm spin boom. Why are bowling attacks now dominated by a demographic that makes up 10 per cent of the population, and how long will it last?

Trying to sync my son's cricket calendar to my phone. Ical is an open protocol that lets people share calendars, but cricket central from nz cricket instead wants me to give a third party company access to *all* my calendars and contacts on Google just to get his games. Yeah nah.
App wants permission to access all my calenders and contacts.

To contextualise Sobhana Mostary's achievement in reaching three figures on Bangladesh women's maiden bilateral tour of Australia - England women have been playing ODIs in Australia since 1985, and are still yet to have a player score a century in the format against Australia in Australia.

Mongolia bowled out for 13 by Thailand this morning. They are now responsible for four of the seven lowest totals in men’s T20Is, although they don’t have the lowest, which is Ivory Coast’s 7 against Nigeria.

It’s more than just a cricket ball 🏏 For years, women’s and junior cricket have often shared the same ball specifications. Now, new MCC regulations introduce three distinct size and weight specifications - women’s cricket deserves equipment that is properly specified for women’s cricket. 🏏❤️

She also averaged 68 with a SR of 150 at the last WPL. I think that her slow starts are becoming more obvious than her fantastic finishes, but I also queried the "modest" line.

Bit concerning for the West Indies that they'd probably have lost to Zimbabwe today without Stafanie Taylor. Or, if you'd prefer the half full version, what a player Stafanie Taylor is.

I thought Claxton bowled very poorly, despite her figures. Pretty much her only good ball was her second wicket. Very much agree on the decision to rest Matthews.

Eboni Brathwaite has just taken 23 off an over, after hitting the first 3 balls for 6 (and it needed a fine stop to prevent the last ball going for 4). At least one bright hope for West Indies. She's now at 47* off 18.

Yeah, maybe. But divisions with promotion and relegation didn't work that well when we last had it, and tended to mean either international players/hopefuls had to move county if they were relegated or play in Division 2 which isn't ideal. Not saying this is better, but both have drawbacks.

Global Cricket @somuchcricket.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
I agree it's not big enough to support 10 Tier 1 teams who are able to win trophies. But I don't think that makes it a mistake. Increasing the number of pro contracts available allows you to grow the pool faster. I think Sune Luus would be a good signing for Glam, if Surrey don't want her all year.

Re: WPL retention, the explanation for RCB choosing not to retain Grace Harris is they have Ellyse Perry available this time round, and Perry will be taking her slot. Obviously she's not a like for like replacement, but with Mandhana, Voll, Ghosh & de Klerk they might want reliability over dynamism.

Thanks for the righteous indignation about Afghanistan, I think the ECB could well bend to public pressure on the issue, just as Hampshire did with Kuggeleijn - particularly if they are trying to entice new sponsors at the same time.

I think it's more the other way. Pakistan have no other seam bowlers, so they bat her at 6 or 7 as they need her to open the bowling. Scorchers have much better alternative bowling options.

I think you've misunderstood (or I've misunderstood you). The catches where a player leaps beyond the boundary and then jumps back in are fine. The catches where a fielder parries it to a team mate are too. It's the multiple jumps outside the boundary line that are no longer allowed. Like this one:

Yes, the players they have recruited so far are generally players who can contribute in Tier 1 but they need a couple of Glenn/Winfield-Hill signings as well as a Jonassen equivalent to compete, and there's not many players of that calibre out there.

New Zealand cricket is in a bit of a mess. It sounds like they can't sell their franchised NZ20 and are likely to have to postpone launching that again. The Super Smash may be reprieved but no fixtures have been announced. Richard Hadlee has called for the whole board to resign. Doesn't look good.
