Some proselytizing groups do nearly nothing to provide for the material needs of the people they "minister" to. Others swoop-in for a few hours hoping a few words of kindness and a water bottle will be enough to hook a convert. Some have long-term strategies with shelters and regular meals.

Canada passed Bill C-3 which came into effect on Dec. 15, 2025. It removed long-standing "first generation limit" on citizenship by descent. It changed the law so that multiple generations born abroad can inherit Canadian citizenship if there is a qualifying Canadian ancestor. Citizenship is automatic if you qualify, but you must apply for a certificate to prove it.
Has Bassett applied yet? Will she wait until she's elected to apply? Do we want someone with Canadian citizenship serving in our Oregon Legislature?

The vice-chair of the Clackamas County Republicans IS a Proud Boy who's been known for fascist street fighting, and also has been spotted attending Athey Creek Church. Here the Clackamas GOP calls it a religious duty for Christians to "occupy" Oregon government for their MAGA Jesus.

Brett Meador has bragged about Proud Boys attending his church, Athey Creek, and quite a few have been spotted there along with right-wing MAGA activists. There's also been a few far-right at Crossroads Community Church in Vancouver. Both are basically Calvary Chapel churches.

It's good to see some people resisting these white supremacists and anti-LGBTQ+ Christian Nationalist bigots. These are the same MAGAs who spoke at Gathering of the Eagles with a bunch of J6ers, election deniers, and Steve Bannon.

This weekend, our Club America students set up a table outside the Salem Farmers Market to start conversations about free speech and conservative values.
It didn't take long. A group called "Singing Resistance" planted themselves right in front of our booth and danced and sang for the rest of the event. The goal was obvious: keep people away and stop conversations before they started.
They weren't alone. By the end, our students were surrounded by THREE groups: the singers you see in the video, a Pride-accepting church "blessing dogs" or whatever that means, and an old timer holding an anti-Trump sign.
So what did our students do? They stayed calm. They walked over and talked with the "church's" head pastor. They listened, asked questions, and engaged respectfully. And the moment there was real disagreement, the other side walked away with high emotions.
That's the difference. Our students came ready to talk. Others came ready to make noise.
These are high school students. They're not looking for a fight. They're looking for a conversation. And that's exactly why I believe in this work.

I use the term “MAGA” a lot because, in the future, it will be used like the term “Nazi” and everyone will immediately despise the people associated with it. Most MAGAs aren’t terrible all the time though, they’re often pretty average but bought into fascism and their values began to rot. MAGA
