There is an exception for cosmic-flatpak, where each project manages its own flatpak manifest, pointing to its own code. These manifests are reviewed by our team for the correct sandboxing prior to accepting changes. 4/4

In particular, we would like to prioritize working on contributions from our own team and regular contributors, while we have been receiving far more changes from first-time contributors using LLMs. These changes are often unplanned and have had a low acceptance rate. 2/4

COSMIC projects will no longer accept LLM-generated content in PRs. There are various reasons, and I don't want to hurt anybody's feelings. The primary reason is simply our team's load for reviews. 1/4

Apparently there are heated arguments among OpenMandriva maintainers about whether to package COSMIC or GNOME and Davide Beatrici turned to crime to undo the packaging progress. It probably should not be, but it is hilarious to me.

Source code would have no copyright protection if it is considered public domain
110
Jeremy Soller @soller.dev · 12/03/2026
Public domain code does not have to be shared.
100
Jeremy Soller @soller.dev · 12/03/2026
Specific source code that is written by an LLM with limited human involvement would still be public domain. There is no requirement to share public domain source code. If it is shared, no one can claim copyright of it and credibly apply any software license to that specific source code.
000
Jeremy Soller @soller.dev · 12/03/2026
Exactly, LLMs can output already copyrighted code verbatim. That does not strip it of copyright, as a human created it originally.
010
Jeremy Soller @soller.dev · 12/03/2026
I'm mostly saying any sections written by LLM may lose copyright and therefore the license would not apply to those sections. Public domain code can be lifted and used without attribution (MIT) or copyleft (GPL). For some projects this is a non-negligible and growing amount of code.
110
Jeremy Soller @soller.dev · 12/03/2026
Indeed, if not for copyright then my concerns are quality related

Today, I met with Colorado Sen. Ball, co-author of CO OS Age Attestation Bill SB26-051. Sen. Ball suggested excluding open source software from the bill. This appears to be a real possibility. No illusions, it's an uphill battle, but we have an open door to advocate for the open source community.

I saw someone claiming that this is short-sighted and that someone should fork it without the new policy, since it would develop at "5×" the current rate. Genuinely, if you think you can fork RedoxOS, and long term improve its development by a 5× for more than the attention span of a grifter, do it.

Here is one of the dumbest things about vibe coding that I don't see a lot of people talking about Imagine you're an open source maintainer and someone opens up a pull request against your repository that they vibe coded. They may or may not tell you they vibe coded it; it doesn't really matter… 🧵
