After a few nights of reading through thousands of pages of PRMs I have finally implemented a modesetting driver for Intel HD graphics on Redox OS: gitlab.redox-os.org/redox-os/bas.... There is much more to do, but there is now a clear path to native hardware accelerated graphics!

There's still some weirdness but I have mate-session running on Redox. We now have GTK, X11, wayland, d-bus, and dconf ported (though there are still some bugs). With these fundamentals in place, porting software from Linux has become much easier.

The `bottom` system monitor (written in Rust) is now ported to Redox OS!

htop has been ported to Redox OS! I'm using it to identify performance bottlenecks.htop running inside cosmic-term on the left, ffplay playing Stargate SG-1 on the right.

Redox OS performance is steadily improving. Here is 1080p video being played on a 1440p display. Most of the CPU usage is software video decoding, with the orbital windowing system adding minimal overhead. A careful look through the CPU times can verify this. 1/2
On the left, cosmic-term with transparency showing ps command output. On the right, ffplay is playing the 200th episode of Stargate SG-1. The majority of CPU time is being used by two ffplay threads, performing video decoding.

Yesterday I went through a ton of issues with Redox OS on riscv64. I was able to get everything compiling and working but netsurf, which has unusual soft/hard float ABI linking issues. Here is cosmic-term showing screenfetch output.
Redox OS booted to the Orbital desktop on QEMU for riscv64. COSMIC Terminal is maximized and showing screenfetch output, which shows that Redox OS 0.9.0 is running on a riscv64 CPU.

Ancient problems require ancient solutions. The Osborne 1 made a trip to the office today!

I have ported X11 to Redox OS in order to start working on ports that have previously been too difficult. In the future, we will be rebuilding these with wayland. Here is TWM with gtk3-demo open on the left, the embedded GL example on the right, and xterm behind.

I wrote a small program to sync my Launch keyboard color to the COSMIC accent color

I had no idea Dr. Seuss had an opinion on C++
A modified page from the book One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish by Dr. Seuss.

On the right side, the following poem:

Look what we found
in the park
in the dark.
We will take him home.
We will call him C++.

He will live at our house.
He will grow and grow.
Will our mother like this?
We don't know.

Type to search and type to seek are now options in cosmic-files! github.com/pop-os/cosmi...
A cosmic-files window is open. On the right, the settings for cosmic-files are open showing two options for type to seek behavior that have been added. The options are as follows.

- Searches the current folder and all sub-folders.
- Enters the path to the directory or file.

On the top is the standard window menu. On the left is the navigation bar. In the middle are the contents of the cosmic-files source code.

MPRIS and album art is implemented in cosmic-player now. Be aware your music files need to have ID3 data, which can be added if missing using MusicBrainz Picard. More features for playing audio files will be added soon.

I found out Balatro was using LOVE, so naturally, I had to port LOVE and check it out on Redox OS!
