DISRUPTING THE ORDER: Jewish Currents received a letter last week from the mailroom of the San Quentin Rehabilitation Center informing us that the fall issue of the magazine is being “withheld” from a subscriber imprisoned there, “pending review.” According to the mailroom office assistant who signed the letter, the cartoon by Solomon Brager, “Diary of a Transgender Ideology Extremist,” which is available for subscribers to read on our site, violates two separate sections of California’s prison contraband law. Those sections ban people from possessing any matter “of a character tending to incite murder; arson; riot; or any form of violence or physical harm to any person, or any ethnic, gender, racial, religious, or other group,” and from possessing matter concerning “plans to disrupt the order, or breach the security, of any institution.”
