Gardening situates you in a different kind of time, the antithesis of the agitating present of social media. Time becomes circular, not chronological; minutes stretch into hours; some actions don’t bear fruit for decades. The gardener is not immune to attrition and loss, but is daily confronted by the ongoing good news of fecundity. A peony returns, alien pink shoots thrusting from bare soil. The fennel self-seeds; there is an abundance of cosmos out of nowhere.

I've been rabbiting on about this. Too often Mark Carney doesn't treat Canadians as a target audience in his comms. It'd be great if he'd sit down with a Cdn newspaper for the type of interview he just granted the NYT. We deserved to be told about prep for a potential US military action. #CdnPoli
A tweet from March 2026

@christyceeck.bsky.social
This is not how comms should work. Canadians are a target audience -- one could argue the most important audience. If the PM does value Cdns as an audience, then his avoidance of journos, now & in general, could come down to thinking Canadians won't like what he has to say if he says it in detail.

Another essential read from @althiaraj.bsky.social. "The government frames this law as part of its “Canada Strong” plan — and frankly, some parts are good — but toxic with good is still bad." #GiftLink 🎁 #CdnPoli #SnakesInSuits www.thestar.com/gift-redeem?...
It’s legislation that Conservatives can only dream Canadians would have allowed them to table. But Liberals who spent years saying their assessments wouldn’t result in lawsuits, and that science-based decision making that considered impacts on nature, climate, Indigenous Peoples, was required — now stand by watching it dismantled by one of their own.

Now, one can believe that it takes too long to get projects done in this country and reform is needed, and still conclude that what the prime minister proposes is a radical departure from what Canadians expect.

Toronto Const. Timothy Barnhardt was unaware a recording device had been hidden inside his police cruiser as he invited an alleged drug dealer into the passenger seat.

Barnhardt showed the man the computer screen attached to the centre console, where the veteran officer could search confidential databases containing people’s home addresses. Police allege that Barnhardt had been feeding the information gleaned from the searches to criminals, who used it to conduct shootings, robberies and other violent acts.
