You may be right The NDP seems to intend for this to be a social media scandal. There's no press release, unlike the times they've targeted Conservative candidates And dropping it late on a holiday Friday afternoon means it might burn out without going much beyond Twitter

This is good context following Doerkson's decision to drop Joachim Agou as the party's candidate in Victoria-Beacon Hill over racist social media posts That's a no-hope riding for the Cons but some BC Conservative incumbents who have made homophobic comments are still running in strong Con ridings

Also yesterday, Insurance Brokers of BC came out in favour of keeping the no-fault insurance system brought in by the NDP BC Conservatives' Lorne Doerkson is promising to turn it into a "hybrid model" to, he says, better serve people who are catastrophically injured in vehicle accidents

View in Browser

Statement on the Future of Auto Insurance in B.C.

The Insurance Brokers Association of British Columbia (IBABC) believes any discussion about the future of auto insurance in B.C. must begin with one question: What system will continue to provide effective, affordable and available auto insurance today and for the long term for all residents of B.C.? B.C. Brokers serve more than four million drivers across the province in over 900 locations, serving consumers with all their insurance needs.

Having extensively studied alternatives to B.C.’s public auto insurance system, to date we have yet to see a universally available, consumer-friendly private-market or hybrid tort option that provides greater long-term and sustainable value for B.C. drivers than the existing framework.

This does not mean that changes are without merit. ICBC must continue to evolve, improve service, control costs, deliver effective claims service and hold all drivers accountable for their behaviour by affecting rates of those drivers who cause accidents. We believe the current reforms are moving the system in the right direction, with a greater share of the financial burden being placed on those whose driving behaviour contributes to increased claims and rewards responsible drivers with better rates. The current model does still assign fault in all claims.

For more than 50 years, ICBC has provided mandatory auto insurance to British Columbians without making eligibility dependent on factors such as age, gender or marital status – factors that private insurers may consider when establishing rates. That is particularly important when considering the experience of private auto markets in other provinces. Across Canada, private insurers are facing significant challenges from rising claims costs, affordability pressures and changing regulatory environments.

In some jurisdictions, insurers have restricted physical damage coverage offerings, or withdrawn from segments of the mark…

Third update on provincial candidates today! Elections BC confirms a Green candidate in Langley-Willowbrook #bcpoli
VICTORIA – There has been an update to the final list of candidates for the 2026 Provincial General Election.

Candidate added – Langley-Willowbrook

Candidate Anisha Sandhu, representing the BC Green Party, has been added to the official list of candidates and will appear on the ballot for Langley-Willowbrook.
On October 8, Elections BC determined the candidate’s nomination application was not processed correctly and re-evaluated the submission. As a result of this review, Elections BC has determined the candidate’s nomination application met all requirements and has been accepted.

Accordingly, the Chief Electoral Officer has issued an Order under s. 280 of the Election Act to add candidate Anisha Sandhu to the ballot for Langley-Willowbrook.

It's worth noting that in the olden days (like, 15 years ago) areas like White Rock/South Surrey, the Tri-Cities, or Ridge Meadows had 5-15 reporters solely dedicated to local community news. There was a business model that supported that, and it's a huge issue that no longer exists.

Elections BC updated the provincial candidate list today: - A OneBC candidate approved in Burnaby North, following a paperwork snafu - Unaffiliated candidate Timothy Webster withdrew from Vancouver-Yaletown, but will still be on the ballot. There are now 4 candidates in that riding #bcpoli
Candidate withdrawn – Vancouver-Yaletown

Timothy Webster has withdrawn as a candidate in Vancouver-Yaletown.

Under the Election Act, a candidate may withdraw from an election at any time up to 48 hours before the start of advance voting. Advance voting starts on Friday, October 16.

To withdraw, a candidate must submit a signed, witnessed withdrawal notice to the district electoral officer. Timothy Webster’s withdrawal notice was accepted October 8.

Ballot printing for the election began on October 4 and is nearly complete. As a result, Timothy Webster will appear on the ballot for Vancouver-Yaletown. Election officials will inform voters at voting places that Timothy Webster has withdrawn as a candidate. There will also be signage at voting places announcing this withdrawal.

Candidate added – Burnaby North

Candidate Jenny Yamagata, representing the OneBC party, has been added to the official list of candidates and will appear on the ballot for Burnaby North.

On October 3, 2026, Elections BC determined that Jenny Yamagata’s candidate nomination application was incomplete and informed them that their nomination was rejected.

On October 5, Elections BC received a formal request to review that decision. Elections BC re-evaluated the submission and determined the candidate’s nomination should have been accepted on October 3.

Accordingly, the Chief Electoral Officer has issued an Order under s. 280 of the Election Act to add candidate Jenny Yamagata to the ballot for Burnaby North.
