I keep thinking I'm going to start making my game (an idea I've had for a long while to extend a game I made as a teenager in DOS) but then I see all this stuff about AI and get depressed and wonder whether I should bother. I guess I shouldn't think that way but it feels overwhelming sometimes.

I missed the China album somehow - had all the other early ones on vinyl, but donated them to a mate decades ago.... apart from Rendez-vous, which has warped into something resembling a plant pot for some reason ! 🙄

😅 Oh yes ! I've already forgotten which room the 'Manequin' was actually meant for...... 'Golden Oldie' (bat and ball room) I think, but probably wrong. Also the likelihood of getting to that room without cheating is minimal ! 😅

Yes, I haven't delved into it much yet, but it appears the same engine was used for a number of adventures, with very few changes to the engine itself ! If it works, don't fix it !

Although that helped immensely with "SIM"..... 'cos the game was so nuts anyway, finding procs that checked items and rooms really helped me get an idea about what the hell was going on ! 😅

I guess you found all the Item logic.... "this object needs to be used in room xx".... is that what you mean ?

There's Verbs and Nouns uncompressed, but hasn't really spoilt much, because I don't know where these items are, or what they do !

Just remembered - I've got an old folder with stuff dating back 10 years (when I started coding again) - entitled "All My Own Work".... kind of has a different meaning now ! Hope you get your mojo back and the enjoyment of it being "all you own work" 😎

Totally with you on that one ! I could have banged out Chuckulus in a couple of weeks with AI, but would have got no enjoyment from that at all. It's my hobby. Even if I had used AI, it's not going to do a crash-test on my real Electron in my bedroom !....

I only got to play this at a friends house (had an Electron at home, no Beeb) - memories of all this in the video, but can't remember getting very far in it at all ! Impressive if you completed it back in the day though ! 😎

I struggled to find something old enough!

I was intrigued back in the day about that, but never tried it. I did start writing my own in BASIC for the Beeb, promptly ran out of memory. Got about half way through converting it to 6502, but the engine needs A LOT of work ! 🙄

Someone mentioned a certain Italian plumber and this gave me the idea for the current game mechanic instead of an "endless runner" game. Funny enough, having the screen scrolling continuously is easier to get right! Showing the advanced back buffers (4!) technique for your viewing pleasure 😎
