Marketing every new fantasy with a romantic element as romantasy does a disservice to readers and writers. Romance & fantasy have different expectations (no shade to either), so a romance in a fantasy setting is NOT THE SAME as a fantasy with romantic subplots. Everyone just ends up annoyed

Likewise. Even when I've met former military peeps IRL they've typically been pretty vocal in their critiques. I remember having one as a classmate in a Social Work class in college. They ended up doing a presentation about the rates of PTSD in their old Batallion alone

Speaking honestly, I do not care if someone is a US military vet, since there's a pretty solid chance they're just as annoyed or pissed off at our government as a lot of us are. They know how bullshit it is from experience Which is something the blindly patriotic types don't to worry about.

Because horrifying fact: while the US Military is now voluntary, they still engage in deeply predatory recruitment practices and tactics. Their benefits look so good because it makes it easier for them to draw in people (typically black or brown peeps) from poor, under-served communities.

GOD I've heard horror stories about FF7 fandom. And like, I'm an old school Homestuck fan. I saw some insane shit there but NOTHING that compares to FF7 fandom shit. (Part of me thinks it's also the age of the fandom, too)
