Just found out that Matt Howarth died. One of the purest examples of the explosion of creativity that happened in American comics in the 1980s, his weird take on genre tropes was totally individual and uncommercial. RIP.

Elmira NY. It's a small rural town and I was born in the late 60s. There were a lot of hunters in town. The class was optional and required explicit parental permission. I'm not a gun guy. Don't own any. Never shot one. Don't want to. But I think it was a practical thing in the time and place.
