Which has just reminded me of the "Rhino Bear" subtitle typo on BBC News when he died, and has consequentially sent me into fits of laughter for the second time this evening.

You'll be pleased to know that this has come up on my feed while I'm hosting my usual weekly pub quiz and once again I've been reduced to helpless laughter at the sight of the cat.

Catching up with this week's Only Connect and whoever was compiling the connecting walls must have been in the absolute foulest of moods when putting them together because they were genuinely HORRID.

Today I learned of a museum in Bedfordshire called the Shuttleworth Collection which features a display of historical cars, and I genuinely hope that it features among its exhibits an Austin Ambassador Y Reg.

I'm not going to post a picture because just looking at a picture of it even now I'm an adult still makes me feel uneasy, but that sodding musical box at the start of Camberwick Green.

THIS. It's not fucking difficult. It took us all of about 3 weeks with my kid until it felt weird saying their old name (with people who didn't know). It makes me so angry when people just won't try.

Because let me tell you, gender dysphoria is a horrible thing, so why not make things just that little bit easier for your child by ensuring they don't have to deal with it and can actually be comfortable being their actual authentic selves.

Him Over There, and now available for work @snathe.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
This may be something you may not have realised, but the more you actually use their preferred name and pronouns instead of their sodding deadname, the easier and more natural it becomes! So why not actually bloody respect your child and USE THEM.

Him Over There, and now available for work @snathe.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Hey, parents! If your child has told you they are trans or non binary and have informed you of their preferred name and pronouns, then it absolutely behoves you to not only use them when you're in the presence of your child, but also when you are NOT in their presence and talking to other people.

Alright, I guess. Thank you for checking in :) Have a couple of potential routes to explore in the pipeline, may come to nothing but am staying hopeful. Still fed up about the whole situation, though, it really has kicked my confidence and self belief, even more than last time.

A favourite of Kit's is, whenever I say "ugh, I've got a hair in my mouth", is for them to reply "could be worse, it could be a rabbit!". And also a classic from my own family; if anyone mentions the Welsh seaside town of Prestatyn, to quip "press what in?"

Gah, I meant "228 instead of 288"! Now wondering if I can swap this version of Bluesky for one with an edit button. *dials number, remembering the 01- as he's outside London*

Him Over There, and now available for work @snathe.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
I do now find myself wondering how the number could have been most often misdialled. For example, dialling 228 instead of 228 would have reached a number on Battersea exchange (it kept the BAT letter-to-number mapping when London changed to all figure numbering in the 1960s)

Vague memory of the very first Swap Shop mainly consisting of Noel giving a very long-winded explanation of how the show worked (no items yet available to swap) plus a quick chat with Cheggers at an outside location about a future roadshow. Initially Posh Paws didn't have a name.

Why on earth would you choose the waiting room of a hospital to have a loud face-to-face video call with somebody?

Yep, the whole "backstabbing" concept of it absolutely sickens us. We both had enough of that unpleasantness at school, the last thing we want to do is watch it in the name of supposed entertainment. Genuinely just don't get it.

That’s Life! was just incredible. Its two most famous moments are a man being movingly celebrated by the now grown Jewish children he got out of Nazi Germany & a dog saying “sausages”. No other programme has ever had that range.

And more excitement discovering that next Wednesday (7th Oct) is the 50th anniversary of the opening of the new exchange in Rufford which replaced the old exchanges in Rufford and Mawdesley, with all 3 digit numbers becoming 6 digits on Rufford 82xxxx (Rufford xxx -> 821xxx, Mawdesley xxx -> 822xxx)

Him Over There, and now available for work @snathe.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Further phone excitement with the discovery of the 1987 article announcing the modernisation of the exchange at Hesketh Bank with changes to STD code (0772) and local number (prefixed with 81) And I seem to recall no one began quoting their new number as 077281 xxxx. London, take note...

Interesting to note (no, shut up, it is!) that Maghull exchange was not lumped in with the other Liverpool exchanges (ANF, CEN, NOR, ROY, BOO) available on 83x from Ormskirk and was instead on the 82x level along with Parbold, Rufford, Upholland and Wigan - the latter three all on 824!

No, YOU'RE taking advantage of the free searches on newspapers.com this week and looking at all the results for "telephone exchange" in your old local rag. (Already found some local code information from when the Ormskirk exchange went automatic in 1953 which made me whoop in genuine excitement)

Just checked my mobile call log and yep, same here, but all marked as spam thankfully so they don't actually ever ring - one today (a mobile) and then two from Saturday (Aberdeen and Gloucester) and two from Friday (Cardiff and London). One did get through yesterday, though.

This Fairford business does somewhat put me in mind of my days doing C.12th re-enactment and a particular Shire Court display at Whittington Castle in 2014, which involved three men accused of "being suspicious in a graveyard at midnight". youtu.be/5tgFZtUVgkQ?...

An excellent night of OQL action for team TOWIE with victories for us both in the main and the friendly. Always good to see the team picking up other people's questions or getting the steals from the other side. Early days yet but I'm quietly confident we'll be able to avoid relegation again.

It's #NationalTeletextDay once again, so it's time to do my duty (or should it be duvet)
A double bed with a duvet on top of it. The duvet has a page from Ceefax printed on it with text as follows:

"You are watching items of news and information from CEEFAX, the BBC's teletext service. The full service offers several hundred pages and is available to anyone with a suitably-equipped television set."

Most of the text is white on a blue background, with CEEFAX and The BBC's teletext service in yellow.

There are also two plain white pillows at the top of the bed, with a cuddly dragon sat between then. A pair of bedside tables sit either side of the bed with various things placed on them such as alarm clocks and telephones.
