From this week’s figure drawing session. Obviously some areas that need refining, but the model can only sit for so long…

Hot Take: Gloating about other people -including children- not having safe food to eat is a dick move. Most of us don’t support this administration.

Just got my first accusation of my art being AI. I have been producing art like this since long before AI even existed. There is plenty of evidence of this online. But the real kicker is that they quoted back an AI summary from a reverse image search as “evidence” I was using AI to make it.

It wasn’t done on this trip, but this is the first piece that I did that will be used in my Chicago project. The final piece won’t be in quite the same form, but this represents a good “sketch” of it.
Detailed, large scale pencil drawing. 1 point perspective. Viewer is standing behind a your woman who is casually seated in a chair, drawing in a tablet. The full wall window in front of her is of high rise apartment and office buildings. Depicts a real view of Chicago.

Lots of #Chicago work coming. Looking for the less monumental but equally notable parts of the city. The geometry is so beautiful here.
Detailed sketch of a pedestrian walkway on a bridge crossing the river in Chicago. Ink w/ cross-hatching. Single point perspective framed by the bridge to the left above, an open railway and light to the right, with a darkened tunnel framing the foreground.

Sketch from the Chicago Field Museum. I’m normally extremely precise with my perspective, but in an attempt to loosen up I’m sketching in ink and without a straight edge. I’m not sure I like it, but it’s getting decent response around the socials.

Freshly back from Chicago So much art to follow, but felt right to start w/ a sketch from our Chinatown hotel b/c the hotel was quite sketchy. That said, Chinatown is a lovely neighborhood and the red line is a block away so the entire city is easily accessible. I highly recommend giving it a go.
Ink sketch of a window. Blinds are raised to reveal another building and a fire escape counterweight filling the entire view.

This morning I listened to national network news anchors realize that this country is run by a handful of corporate oligarchs pulling the strings of the govt. They are shocked and appalled that this is suddenly happening. This is a pic of the back cover of my first book. Written in 2015-2016 and
Pink, black and white propaganda poster. Text says:
WAKE UP!
The global corporate oligarchy is real.
Unlimited money in elections. Legalized bribery. Appointments of CEOs to major cabinet positions. Removal of emoluments clause. Privatization of military, education, prisons and social welfare programs. Deregulation of industry and markets. Demonization of trade unions. Police and military force used against civilians to protect corporate interests. Intimidating on and censorship of the media.

Join the resistance.

❗️FBI is reaching out to people who were previously arrested by NJSP during protests outside Delaney Hall. Some have received phone calls or door knocks. National Lawyers Guild is spreading an advisory for people to contact their hotline if feds come knocking:
On Friday June 5th, at least 2 comrades arrested by state troopers on 5/29 at Delaney Hall were called by someone who self-identified as an FBI agent. On Saturday, June 6th, at least one comrade received a phone call followed by a doorknock by the FBI
PHONE CALLS AND DOOR KNOCKS FROM LAW ENFORCEMENT: if you receive a phone call from a number you don't know: Ask "who is this?" and write down their response. Ask the agent 1) their agency, 2) the agent's name, and 3) their phone number. tell them 4) you will not answer any questions and 5) a lawyer will contact them. Hang up as soon as you get their name and agency. If it is a doorknock, ask for the same info (name, agency, phone number) or for them to slide a card under the door --DO NOT open the door. You have a constitutional right to remain silent and you have a constitutional right to not open your door or let law enforcement into your home without a warrant. Since it is also crime to lie to law enforcement, the safest thing is to only "leave your name and number. a lawyer will contact you."
If feds call or come knocking call the National Lawyers Guild's Federal
Defense Hotline 212-679-2811. Leave your name and phone number. A lawyer will contact you so that you can have a privileged conversation about your rights, risks, and responsibilities and be connected with appropriate legal resources.

Very necessary change is coming, even if it is slow. For me personally. Work stuff. I make no promises about societal or systemic changes. I think we will need a lot more people activated before that kind of change will happen. But def something we should also be impatiently working towards.

Kindness or goodwill extended to strangers never to be encountered again carries a purity and beauty unmatched in this world. – Hideko Takamine (Japanese actress, 1924-2010)
A photograph of Hideko Takamine (provided by Toho Co., Ltd.) taken during the filming of When a Woman Ascends the Stairs, a 1960 Japanese drama film directed by Mikio Naruse. The black-and-white image shows Takamine standing on a quiet, sunlit street dressed in an elegant kimono. Fallen leaves scatter across the sidewalk, while the shadows of trees create a serene atmosphere. A sign reading "Manhattan" hangs above, hinting at a blend of tradition and modernity, captured in a fleeting, contemplative moment.

A few pics from the artist’s reception on Thursday. I love seeing people interact with my work for the first time and hearing their questions. Everyone zeroes in on something different, but the solemn acknowledgement of the theme is fairly universal. They want to fight, but feel powerless.
A young man leans into for a closer look at a detailed illustration hanging on a gallery wall. Close up of an illustration of a protest hanging on a gallery wall. Two pieces of art hanging on a gallery wall. To the left is a black and white illustration of a teenager looking at a wall of TVs, each with an image of shocking violence pulled from US news in the last 5 years. To the right is a picture of an immigrant, staring silently out at the viewer, his face tinted with the red and white stripes of a flag and one eye covered with a dark blue field and a single, yellowed star. Poster introducing the exhibition theme “At This Moment,” which chooses to acknowledge the USA’s 250th not with celebration and aggrandizement, but instead with a look at the experiences and perceptions of the people who live here.

Many of us have mental illnesses that require medications. Anti-depressants among others. There is no going off these meds and continuing to function fully in society. Let alone be happy. There is ZERO need for us to go off of them, and countless reasons for us to stay on them. Fuck RFK Jr.

Confession: Sometimes my husband and I go morally bankrupt stores like hobby lobby and Walmart just to pick up items and stick them somewhere completely different in the store. We consider it doing our part to drive up labor costs by requiring human labor to correct, while doing no actual harm.
