Manufacturers sold baby dolls that *behave as if* they are lonely/hungry/tired/wet/whatever when my great-great-great-great-grandmothers were children. It was a cool trick; tipping the doll on its side triggered a bellows mechanism. Though without a little girl's imagination, it was just noise.
